Mystery Shopping/Merchandising?

I started off with merchandising companies similar to Crossmark, but what is the difference between them and all of these smaller names and also mystery shopping? With merchandising we just go in and do resets etc,I associate mystery shopping with making purchases now and being(hopefully)reimbursed later...seems a little risky to me,especially since I'm struggling financially at this point. But does it always involve purchases? I was recently contacted by Sassie regarding going in to some stores and switching tags out,how do I find more work like that? Ideally I'd probably do better getting in with a major company like Frito doing steady work,as a steady income is what I'm seeking now.

BTW, Sassie is not a company that offers work to shoppers. Sassie is a reporting platform utilized by many mystery shopping companies. Rather than create their own computer system for assigning jobs and receiving reports, smaller companies in particular use an established platform. Others are Shopmetrics and ClientSmart. Larger companies like Trendsource, Maritz, Market Force and Corporate Research International have their own system.

Pepsi, Kellogg's, P&G usually hire heavy in the summer for merchandisers. Check NARMS, and your state job board. Check the merchandising section of this forum if you have questions on merchandising. Good luck in your search.
Thanks,I'm finding out about Sassie now...though still getting no replies to the messages I received.

I am registered with NARMS as well, but rarely hear back when I apply. I also recently learned rather than just apply to the general ad,to try and find a contact person to follow up with. I've heard that sometimes applications take awhile to go through the whole process.
If you received job posting generated by the Sassie system, they may be set up as "Do Not Reply," so you won't get a response. Go directly to whichever company website and see if there is a way to contact them.

I tried searching for someplace to reply...I did send a reply to the name that was furnished but haven't heard anything back. One of the projects is starting on Monday and I really need someone to contact, otherwise I may have to just do a no show. I don't trust anything that gives me no contact info.
Were you assigned the job or was it a job posting? If it is a posting you have to apply and they will let you know if it is assigned. What actual company are you talking about? Nobody can suggest a contact person without at least that much information.

Ok apparently it's called M3 Merchandising, they sent me some postings for this area and I accepted them. All I received was an auto reply saying I was accepted and some pdf's of instructions for the shops...when I completed my profile there was something about receiving payment through PayPal but I received no acknowledgement if my info was accepted or even if there was any other signup info I had to complete or replies to my messages, which makes me remain hesitant.

Most of the merchandising companies that I've spoken with tell me about imminent projects, but none can tell me if they generally have consistent work...reminds me of regular staffing agencies like Manpower I used to try and get work from.
P&G no longer hires merchandisers directly - they discontinued that division the beginning of 2012 (I was a casualty)
