Filing from Multiple companies

Hello Flash, this is my first year with taxes from mystery shopping and I 'm attempting to figure this out. I have worked with a lot of companies some i have only made a few hundred from and have 4 companies I have made over $500 for and 1 I made well over a $1000 from and another I made over $2000 from when I add all companies together I made $7400 with out the ones i made under a hundred from, how do I get my self employment tax down? I read your post and I guess I can't claim my office because I also go to college on line out of it and use it for school work. About mileage is that just one way from my home? Should I use the smaller companies to even though they won't be sending me a 1099.

Yes, it would go on line 21 of your 1040 as "Other Income".

If you are planning on continuing shopping you may want to go on and establish a Schedule C business, though if your records are spotty you may want to leave that for 2012 taxes.

Not all companies keep your payment records on line or on line for very long after you have performed the shop. In some of those cases your payment may include both your fee and reimbursement, so spend some time and try to figure it out so that you are neither cheating yourself or the government because reimbursements are not taxable.
