Video Shops

Good Morning Everyone,
I was offered a video shop. Does anyone know what a video shop is or has anyone ever done a video shop. I'm not familiar, please advise.

Many of us are video shoppers and if you search on this site there are several threads. I'm curious how you would have gotten offered a video shop without even knowing what it was. A lot of us have purchased our own equipment and attended training. And the video shopping companies I know don't generally post jobs on public boards. Can you give us some insight?

Thanks for the feedback, I will look through some other threads. I am familiar with apartment shops. Have done them in the past, never video. This needed shop comes from EPMS. But I'm not comfortable with something I know nothing about.
Go figure!!
tigerlillie,
Call EPMS and speak with Robert Asher who handles the video shopping area there. He is very, very helpful and will explain the equipment, help you learn to use it, send it to you, etc. The BIG deal is to be sure to send back their equipment on time because they get really nervous about such expensive equipment being unaccounted for. If you enjoy video shopping, you will find that it soon pays to buy your own equipment, as EPMS and others pay mose if they do not have to ship their equipment back and forth.

If you already know that you like their apartment shops, you may as well try out the video shops. Robert is really great to work with. He is the ONLY one there who knows video shopping, so be sure to speak with him!!!!

Thanks, walesmaven for that info. Yes, I have noticed video shops pay pretty good. I will get on it asap. Appreciate the input.
Hello. I am a new poster here, but have been following the forums for quite some time. I have been very interested in adding video shopping to my resume. I heard it pays better than regular shops, however what I have been offered is the same. Also, are there legal issues with recording someone without their knowledge or consent? Curious.
Not sure what you mean by "what I have been offered is the same." Like any other type of shop the commissions vary, but I've always seen fees which are still higher than the going rate for comparable traditional mystery shops.

San Diego,
Most video shops pay from $50 to $120, with a very few topping out above that. You will usually get a small increase if you have your own equipment that meets the high video and audio standards demanded by the clients. Who has been offering below $50 for video, please?

Thank you Wales, that is what I thought, but not what I have experienced so far, but I'm still new to the VS scene. I am being offered $30 a pop which is no higher than the traditional shops for the same type of assignment (apartments). In addition, these assignments are all over the county in areas I don't usually shop due to distance. And yes, they assign by a bundle of shops so it's an all or nothing commitment. As I understand it, there is a report to fill out in addition to wearing the VS equipment, so where/when does the extra money come in? What's your experience?

I've certainly never seen apartment video shops that low. The only video jobs I do which are under $50 are a monthly route of FF which take less than 15 minutes with a 5 minute report. Even they are higher than that!

walesmaven, I've had my concerns that fees for video may follow the rest of the industry as more people are trained and available. Any thoughts?

SanDiego,
I would not touch those at that rate. I wonder what company is willing to offer a whole route of videos to a newbie! Please name the company.

Well...... I don't know if it's ok to "dog" a company for low pay as they might be monitoring the forums and would hate to get blacklisted, but the company name initials are B-O. Stinks huh?

And yes I'm a newbie to VS, but not to MS. Just finished a 3 day casino shop and still recovering from the reports.
I don't see a company with that name on the official list. As far as I know it would be okay to name them. walesmaven has more experience that me in both video shopping and the forums. She would not ask a question which would put you in a pickle by answeringgrinning smiley

None of the major video shopping companies have any such name. Now, Bare Associates does some low paid video shops but I don't know of anyone who thinks of them as a serious player in the field. Mike Bare, the founder, told the first IMSC conference that he thinks that video shopping is not something his customers are willing to pay for. That was after he had bought a serious V-company and, in the opinion of some, ran it into the ground. His competitors have certainly proven him wrong over the years. I would not consider it onerous in the least not to do Bare videos, given their pay rate.

New company to me, but I'm not in your area. To you have a history with them? If not, check around. Forewarned is forearmed!

Do you have an Internet link to this company? It certainly is not among the 7 companies that comprise the Video Shopping Netwok (VSN) or EPMS, which is a very reliable company that does not participate in the VSN.

There are now two guinea pigs, LOL! Did you find it odd how little information was asked on the "application."

In the meanwhile, I declined the shops as they were $30 each, over 100 questions each with several narratives, plus significant travel/gas time. I've learned my lesson, especially after this 3 day casino trip, that my time is worth more than what is being offered.
San Diego,
I find it very odd that the application does not ask about v-shop experience and whether or not you have your own equipment. Sounds like the company has little experience with v-shopping. Since v-shopping really requires a lot of timely coordination between a v-experienced scheduler and the shopper, I would steer clear. It would be nice if someone from the company would show up here.

walesmaven, did you receive an e-mail from the company? One was sent to me about midnight.
