Newbie

Hi everyone,

I am absolutely thrilled to be part of this forum. I have had a few offers but none that I have taken so far because I want to remain within 100 miles of my local area. I am ready to learn anything that I can.

Welcome! Unless you live in a verrrry rural area you will find shops fairly close to home. I am on the edge of a small city and there are many shops within 30 miles, though generally I am willing to do those within 15 miles. If you have not done so already, check Jobslinger.com (it is a free signup--I'm not talking about Jobslinger Plus that is giving a free trial before a paid subscription). Make sure you are signed up with the companies that have posted shops recently in your area. That should get you started closer to home before you decide whether shopping is for you or not and sign up with lots and lots of companies.
I lived in Dallas and got a lot of restaurant assignments nearby, in Cleveland there have been fewer of some types but more of others. The best advice I could give would be to apply to as many places as you can, and get as many offers as possible. I have a blog where I've posted a handful of articles that might be helpful to you as you are starting out. You can read them here:

Also, my blog has Weekly Giveaways every Friday:

I will have one Cleveland-area giveaway and one US-wide. This week's prize will be an adorable cupcake apron from Etsy.com and a restaurant giveaway in Ohio City.

Good luck, Tricia
