Hi.
I broke my leg a while ago and it has never really healed, which meant that I can't get the kind of work I used to, so started doing some mystery shopping about 6 months ago. I signed up to 12 different companies, with 9 approving me, though 1 corrupted my account by accident. So far, 5 of them have given me work. 2 are good, 2 are not so good, and 1 I've only just started working with. One of them is so bad that I quit from there yesterday, because they had an evaluator that kept rejecting all of my work, making threats to withhold payment, actually withheld payment, gave me a formal warning, and was doing all sorts of dodgy stuff that I am still trying to unpack. It seemed stupid to me that I could get paid $70 for a 2-part job with one company (phone call and visit) but $16 with another for basically the same job, but the $70 one is nice to me while the $16 one treats me like dirt. While the less well-paying one had more jobs than the one that paid more, I am really finding that the ones that pay more also treat you better. I have quite a lot of stories already from my 28 jobs with 20 different businesses across the 5 different mystery shopping companies in the past 6 months. It's really eye-opening. The degree of difference in customer service is enormous. I had one where they told me to go in there and announce that I was a mystery shopper, and you should have seen the staff frantically covering everything up. The funny thing is that the mystery shopping companies themselves vary hugely too. The two best ones are brilliant and wonderful to work with, but the worst one I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Am I allowed to say the name of the company or the name of the evaluator? I don't want to get anyone in trouble so thought to not share too much until I'm sure what I am allowed to share.
Thanks.
