What is this job called?

I ran into a lady today at the local grocery who was using a scanning device to scan bar codes.
It looked as if she was going all over the store and scanning items.
She told me she traveled to several areas in the state to do this.

My question is: What is this job called?
All I saw her do was scanning bar codes with a scanner.
Thanks,

They are in most groceries and most of them will not share their company name. I commented to one once that after she scanned she did not place the product back correctly on the shelf. She told me if was not her job, her job was to scan and leave it after she scanned backwards. She did not have time to turn it back the way she found it. Not too cool!
I just ran across a company which offers this type of work. IRI ISG Inc. They are out of Chicago. They are hiring for the Madison, WI. area part time right now. I only found it as I am in SE Wisconsin and looking for something new myself. I'm too far SE for this to work for me though. The job is called Pt. Field Service Rep, Retail Data collector. Hope this helps you on your quest.

They're probably price checkers. They scan the UPC and enter the price into a machine. the data is matched to the same UPC's in the file of the company that sent them. I used to manage the price checkers for a major grocery chain in California and they used hand-held readers like that. Another method was we would load their handhelds with selected items we wanted and they found them and entered the prices.

I pray it does not occur that the last thing I did before I died was vacuum the house or eat broccoli.

They leave the scanned product turned backwards so they don't get lost while scanning. Inventory auditors will start scanning an aisle/shelf/end caps/or whatever, working left to right, top to bottom. Placing a shelf tag were they begin on a shelf and another were they stop, this is to keep track of what's been scanned/counted. Mainly so everything gets counted and counted only one time.

If anyone is interested in doing inventory work in the large retail stores nationwide, there are several large, nationwide inventory and data collection companies that hire mainly part-time workers. Years ago I worked for RGIS Inventory Specialists, they are an international company that does inventories/data collection/ and limited mystery shopping.....they are usually always hiring if interested. They travel anywhere and everywhere.

Hey cruiseguy. There is a large company that is hiring all over the country for inventory associates. It is called WIS international. They are also hiring merchandisers. I just ran across them when I was doing a search in this area.
Oh, no! I'm the kind of person that turns cans around in stores. LOL

I hope I've never messed up anyone's work.

Working in S. Arkansas and N. Louisiana!
Just found another company that has you take pictures of food labels with your smart phone. You can't have a I phone or a Galaxy to use their software so I'm out of luck, FoodEssentials is the company (ONE word) Hope someone out there is having better luck than I am. Perhaps I should just find other people jobs. LOL
