It is a scam. Do not cash the check. Why would someone you don't know send you money for work you have not done? Either they will be calling you to send them money or they are somehow testing the waters to see how people respond. I am certain the check will bounce.
Scam. Take it to the police. They might want it, but more likely they will just tell you how lucky you are compared to the people who fall for it and end up thousands of dollars poorer when the check bounces.

Absolutely a scam, Got me! however, I clued in when they requested I buy prepaid Visa cards and then wanted the #'s. Sure I said. Boy did we have some fun with them till they clued in. Have not heard back from them since, as of yet anyway?
I am not trying to knock you, but google is a useful tool. Odds are if a company doesn't turn up by name in the first 10 results, odds are its a scam.
Generally the scammers do use the name of a legitimate company. The google idea may not necessarily help.
