Thoughts? Opinions. Merchandising shop I did.

I took a route over the weekend I normally do not do, but it was only 3 shops and I was passing through. One of the stores I went into stated they hadn’t seen anyone in months and the last time they did they told the person that they did want to order more, but never heard or seen anything. Next shop I did the person told me that the person usually comes about every two weeks but they place the beanies around the store so they don’t have back stock. I told them I could not do that and I would only be filling the displays as directed and there was so back stock. The next shop I went to they had no back stock and their display had a lot of old and dirty beanies on it. Manager stated she had asked for some to be sent but never received. In the comments of each one I did put what the manager said but I did not mention about the no back stock and putting them around the store. Should I have or just let it go? I definitely do not want to get anyone in trouble we are al out here just trying to make a living.

It isn't unusual to visit a store and find the display hasn't been tended lately so I am not surprised by that and the MSC won't be either. They know they haven't sent anyone. As for outing someone for placing back stock where it doesn't belong, I would have done the same.as you. Decline to perform tasks outside the scope of the assignment and leave it at that. You don't know if you are being told the exact truth, anyway, so I wouldn't be too concerned. I believe others have reported that they used to have vendor route service and now it's been turned over to this MSC for tidying service and ordering is a separate process for the store (that they should be familiar with but are resisting because they want their vendor visits back).
I agree with Deedeez. One store I visited had merchandise in different areas of the store, like a stuffed animal by the register. it actually looked kind of cute in some spots, but I go by the directions I'm given.
This store also likes to load the display themselves and they completely overstuff it, so it made the inventory counting portion a real pain in the butt. They do sell pretty quick at this location, so in my opinion, if the manager wants to load up the display because she's there every day and I only go in 1x a month, then more power to her, I follow the guidelines as close as possible and they can do what they want after I leave.
The report asks if there are "alternate displays", and a place to photograph and count what you find. As long as the round/square/bouncer displays are filled properly, there is nothing saying overflow can't be placed somewhere appropriate if the store has a spot for it.

Unless I am misunderstanding you, you should have refilled the displays with the extra inventory and then merchandised, inventoried, and photographed the items you found around the store.

Some stores don't have space for back stock and put everything on the floor as soon as it arrives. We can't over stuff the displays, so I have stores that have allocated shelf space, and others that have bins. The large beanies are routinely placed throughout the store, which CI also finds acceptable.
