Forum Hijack

For the past few days, I've been getting hijacked. When I'm looking at the forum, and only the forum, on Chrome, suddenly I get hijacked and taken to a new ad page. I don't want to post the url here as it will probably show up as a link and I don't want anyone to click on it.

Here's a screen shot of one of the pages it takes me to, and below that is the warning message I sometimes get from Chrome.

Is anyone else seeing this? It doesn't happen when I visit any other pages - just this forum.

Yup. I had it happen last night on my tablet and thought it was just me since today with my laptop it has not been an issue. Walesmaven contacted me this morning and she was having the same thing. I PMed Jacob so he is looking into it right now. However, I couldn't provide him any screen shots or the web address. Maybe with the additional information he can get to the bottom of the problem.

I use Chrome on all my devices. My tablet is IOS and my laptop is Win7 with Kaspersky internet security.

Yes, it's happened to me several times.

I Googled it and it sounds like it is a virus that comes specifically from forums that run Google ads. Looks like we have an STD (Shopper Transmitted Disease).

Yikes. I am trying to figure this one out. Hopefully asap! It could be a malicious Google Ad somehow redirecting the page. I may be able to block them.
Go Jacob! Go Jacob! We'll be your cheering section as you head into battle. smiling smiley

If this is continuing to happen, please report it here, or by sending me a PM. Thank you!
I logged on and in less than 1 minute it happened again.

It was happening to me repeatedly earlier today (the same images in the OP), and a few times yesterday too... but as of 10:30 tonight it hasn't happened again {knock on wood!}

ETA: Oops. Spoke too soon. It happened again. Grrrrrrrrr.
Now this is super crazy annoying.

It happened to me twice this morning sad smiley

ETA: Make that three. The first two times it took me directly to the page. The last time I got the phishing warning and it "took me back to safety"

I run Windows 7 and access the forum via aol. It was happening all day yesterday but has not yet happened this AM. When I closed the ad, it always kicked me out of the forum completely, so that I had to sign in again. There was no way to close the ad and keep the foum open.

The url is at the top of the first photo I posted if anyone wants to compare if you're seeing what I'm seeing.

This is why I installed ad-blocking software. My mom's computer got infected with a virus that every time she tried to google something it would re-direct her. Had to re-install the browser.

I just read an article about hackers attacking AOL using malware through ads. Nasty

Just remember that when Jacob figures out the ad that is causing this to clear your browser history to make sure you get rid of it on your end.

Good info, Kim. Thanks.

While Google figures this out, I switched all the ads to be text only ads. Please let me know if you experience any of these redirects again!

There are ads on the forum?
I didn't know that.
I'll say no more about my browser and plugins as this would not be healthy for the forum.
LOL. I didn't know it either until James Bond mentioned them to me once.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
Well, the ads do pay the bills. Plus, they let me spend the time keeping this place running. So, YES, there are ads. I suppose I could add a donation option for those who don't want to see ads.

Turning off the image ads has cut the revenue almost in half. I'm leary of turning them back on. But, I'll have to eventually. There are bills to pay.
I think it was just that 'pirating ad' that was making people crazy. I say bring 'em on! smiling smiley

The more ads the better for the forum. Yes Yes Yes!!

Mert,

it didn't happen to me either. It seemed to only happen to a small percentage of our visitors.
dspeakes, Whether or not it is relevant, or a "fix", I run Microsoft Security Essentials, and Norton Power Eraser.
