How to post?

I have searched and found no instructions on how to post within a topic. If there are instructions, they are well-hidden! Please educate me! I am confused with the posting choices. At the bottom of each post there is a blue "Reply" option but then there are two black tabs with "Reply" and "Quote." Does the blue reply automatically include the post with which it is associated? Or does the black one? If I choose "Quote" why does my own post show as a separate post or sometimes not show at all? Really, I am not trolling but just need someone to spell it out for me, like, "If you want to include the a quote from a post and your own response, choose (button A) If you want to reply to the topic in general, choose (button cool smiley If you want to include a quote from a different topic, do whatever." Too many choices and no explanation of what the result will be. Thank you! And why did button B turn into a smiley above? I did not put that there!

I found I can choose either Reply in blue or Reply in black to post within a thread. Neither adds the previous post. To add a previous post (any previous post in the thread can be selected), select Quote in the post you wish to quote before replying. The quote appears and you must scroll either above or below the quote to add your reply before you select either of the two buttons that appear under your post, Preview (to review and proofread your post) or Reply, (to actually post it to the thread).
Emoticons are built in. A colon followed by a close parenthesis gets you smiling smiley Substitute a capital B for the colon and you get cool smiley
