Aldi's grocery shops

Aldi's is my fave for grocery staples! Didn't even know they were shopped...

The stuffed chicken breast I had the other day was 330 calories, which I didn't think was too bad for that type of meal.

They do have some really good cheeses. I got some cranberry/cinamon goat cheese there the other day. It was a seasonal item, so they don't carry it on a regular basis.

A wate of time .. and how much did you really make ?They are making more money from your purchase
jleetw1.. we are getting free food or free toilet paper or whatever we buy on the shop (whatever the shop reimbursement says) will be reimbursed. Yippee!!

Some hints to the msp is 3 initials... the company does a lot of fast food and bank shops.
I love Aldi's! A must for shopping on a major budget. I was so excited to get to shop for them especially because the closest one is 20 miles away. I would shop there and Walmart and had to make sure I saved enough money to justify the gas. Now I can include my shop fee into that. I have 2 scheduled next month.

Might wanna check the spelling in that last sentence....LOL
All the Aldi's in my area are relatively new and 3 are close enough to grab whenever I see them since they're usually on my way home from somewhere. I agree with others that the fresh meat can be iffy. My sister had some bad meat and returned it with no problem. But, for staples and snacks, IMHO, they're great and cheaper than any major food retailers around here.
Aldi is cheap because of low overhead, and because many (most?) of their products are subpar. As others have pointed out, the produce is often damaged or spoiled. The price of cauliflower might be half that of other stores, but it's also half the size. Their chocolate contains vanillin, which is a cheap wood-based substitute for real vanilla. Their canned vegetables are mushy. Their store brand bread lacks substance and won't hold up to the spreading of peanut butter without tearing.

I recently cooked up a bag of frozen chicken leg quarters my wife bought there some months back. It tasted fine, but those were some skinny hens! That of course meant more pieces per pound, which translates to more bone per pound. We only eat the meat, so that chicken turned out to have a higher price than the chicken I buy on sale elsewhere. The big-name grocery stores around here are competitive on milk, eggs, cheese and other staples, and their sale prices are usually better than the Aldi price.

I have yet to find an item from Aldi that has acceptable quality at the best price. And I've tried many products over many years.
I have done 20 Aldi shops from all over in my area/county and never have I found bad produce.

I walk in and wonder what I might find but never, ever have I found bad produce. The firmness, the color, the body, outstanding. Always.'

I keep wondering when I will walk into crappy fruit or veggies so I can write about it but never happens...

I always look for bloody or discolored meat. I have never seen it. It's always bright and pink. I never see dead flies in the grill. Or milk (oh wait, once I saw a little milk spilled on the floor under the rack and reported it) I find Aldi's veggies and fruits quite comparable if not better than the reg supermarkets.

If you are wondering, I do have a horror story of dead flies (many), rotted packaging and horrid conditions but it was not Aldi's...It was another off brand supermarket...
I have found bad onions once. The entire section smelled, so it was easy to locate the moldy ones on the bottom of the box.

Aldi's is a regular stop every month for the basics. I was delighted to do an aldi shop since I go there anyways.
I can highly recommend some of their "seasonal" items. They have a delicious sweet potatoe casserole that I serve as a desert because its so tasty. Picked up 4 to put in the freezer when they were last in stock.
I too am wary of their fresh fruit but I am a bit of a snob when it comes to that because I use a local farmer.
For the basics... they are at least 1/2 the price of other stores. If it wasn't for shopping at Aldi's I wouldn't be able to splurge on that once a month new item or fun activity.

We are going to be rich! I shop there anyway so I figure it as a discount. Their bagels are great and bigger than the regular supermarkets.
The last scheduler quoted me a higher reimbursement and I took it. It's a drive and probably would not have accepted for 5.00. I knew better too. The scheduler made a mistake.

I'm not a huge Aldi fan but they are worth the shop for: Milk, spices, bagels and yogurt.

I don't see the Aldi's. I may be aged out (74). Anyone have a clue on this? PS I still buy groceries and eat.

For Aldi's I see them some months, others no. I got two this month but none for my nearest. There is one still on the boards for a small town but I find that these typically go very fast.

Anyone that doesn't like what Aldi's has to offer should try the organic (yes, organic!) pumpkin seed granola.

It's out of this world, and a good size box is on $2.49!

I also love their greek yogurt at 89 cents, and the regular yogurt as well at 39 cents! How can you beat that?

I go in there twice a month or so for all of the above and cat food. My finicky cats love it, and at 32 cents a can, it's 20 cents cheaper than the supermarket.
Aldi items are hit or miss for us. The produce is usually good, but you do have to watch it closer than at other stores.

That said, they're having one heck of a promotion on produce right now. 3 cucumbers for 69 cents. 1# of carrots for 69 cents. 1 each of red, orange, and yellow bell peppers for a total of $1.29. Usually their bell peppers are smaller than at other stores, but the ones I bought yesterday are the same size.

We like the round white corn tortilla chips. They're $1.19 (used to be 99 cents) per bag. They're not quite as good as Tostitos, but for the price, they're fine.

The things we like from Aldi, most produce; sour cream; milk; tortilla chips; bacon bits; canola oil; lunchbox apple pies. Other stuff is good too, but those are things I almost always buy.
