What's the most expensive article of clothing you had to "shop?"

Two days ago I had a shop at two high end shops in town. For my first one, I had to shop the luxury goods department and beauty department - women's suits and perfumes. I tried on a $6K Chanel suit that looked "rather smashing" according to the sales rep. I then had the beauty rep try to sell me some $595 perfume.

The next shop I had to do was to try on shoes at a very high end retailer. The $1700 7" shoes were so freaking hideous - I can't imaging people actually buying these.

I kind of threw up in my mouth realizing that people actually spend this kind of money on stuff like this . . . I was just happy to make $72 off these shops.

It's all about marketing and what the customers THINK they are buying. After shopping for so many years, I've come to realize that marketing is a huge ploy to separate cash from the "must have it" shoppers. It's all a huge business and those customers with that much cash to spend on clothing and items that are not worth much more than the stuff at Macy's are being suckered big time...but they think they look great..so who cares.

I had to take a man into a high end boutique. I said, "Honey, I'm going to buy you a suit because I can spend $200 in the store." My dumb self went in there and learned that $200 would only buy a tie that was on sale. He ended up with a $300 Italian shirt instead of the suit.
I somewhat agree. Shopped a cotton polo shirt in a high end store. Cheaper one was $375 for what you could buy anywhere else for $15.00 or less. More expensive one was $475 because it had a finer cotton weave ??? That one would have cost maybe $25.00 in an ordinary store - designer names.

On the other hand, if you're buying a Chanel suit there's a big difference in quality, materials, sewing..but not a $6000 difference ! smiling smiley
Did you try walking in the shoes with the 7" heels? I think my limit is 4".

No way. and I think they look ridiculous - nobody could walk very far in them -
but they give height of at least 3 inches because of the build up in the front.
Wonder how many broken ankles doctors are seeing these days?

My limit is 3" heel.
I had to try on the tallest heels in the boutique . . .I mean really - i took like 3 steps and thought I was going to fall flat on my face.
Definitely paying for the brand name...I tried on a gorgeous coat for 8,000, fit like a glove and it is a lifetime purchase.....tried on a $44,000
Cartier watch (blew my mind) and many things through the years, even if I was rich, no, just too pratical. I like to see the styles, then find something like that in my price range $29.99....smiling smiley
