using fake ssn?

i've been doing shops for about a year now and i like it a lot. recently i got an assignment for a college admissions shop, but they want me to use a fake ssn if i talk to someone from financial aid. has anyone does this before? the msc has been good before but i wasnt sure if this was all good...anyone have any similar experiences?

I haven't done that one, but I have done a credit application shop where they supplied the ssn. I didn't really think about it at the time, but don't know where those fake numbers come from. Now you have me wondering.

Not me!

Even if you did it, we consumers just don't know enough about how SSN's are set up. They do have a logic in the numbers, such as where you got it. Businesses sometimes know more about them.

what about fake name??? Most places want some form of ID just so you can be or say who you are. I have no problem using a fake SSN, but I want a fake name and ID to go with it.

I would be really uncomfortable using a fake SSN. Isn't that fraud? What if you made up a number, and it turns out to actually belong to somebody?

For the jobs I've seen, the number is provided you by the company. Where it comes from is beyond me.

one MSC wanted for me to visit my bank with fake SSN..I refused to do that shop

At first glance, I saw, "using fake son".

That *is* weird. I've seen those college admission shops but hadn't read enough of the details yet to see the fake SSN thing. Is there some way that perhaps a "dummy" SSN can be set up? How can an SSN be fake? Is it really attached to nothing? Does the person you give it to look it up right away, or later? Perhaps when they look it up later, it comes back as erroneous?

Stay away from those. Nothing absolutely NOTHING is guaranteed that the shopping company has given you a valid "false" one to use. What if and it is possible what if they gave you one with fraud already attached to it? Want the cops in seconds?

I have completed two college admissions and financial aid shops. Neither asked me to give a SSN fake or real.

SSNs are given out every day. So I think the fact that a MSC wants "you" to use a fake one seems now to be almost naturall. Standadrs SSNs are given to each and every child born in the US upon birth. Almost every foreign born person is given a SSN when they apply for citizenship.

SSN aren't used for ID as much as for a "record". Business want to know if there is a negative or positive paper trail. Even if they look it up right away. A fake SSN may come back erroneous but by that time,"you" have submitted the shop and gotten paid for it.

The MSC whom wanted to the shopper to used the fake SSN for a college app was probably only try to test the intergity of the college application officiers---->"could they spot a fake SSN and what would they do about it." With certain types of privacy laws in effect these days, there is only so much that one form of ID is going to "let prying eyes" in on.

Besides, applying for a SSN is a piece of cake. The laws have change but that is only for your current SSN. Like said, SSNs are given out every day. Ways to make fake Ids are still out there.

I wouldn't do it. SSN numbers are assigned by which state you resided in when you received it. I got mine in Indiana and it starts with a different number than the one my daughter has. When I lived in Boston and someone asked for my number, they wouldn't accept it because they didn't realize that not all SSN's start with a 0! It also seems as though using a fake number would be some sort of crime.

This statement is not entirely true. Back in the day, SSNs were not given until you were about the age of 14. or just before you "started" your first job. And the U.S. was already filled people. I have never lived in another state nor have my children and grandchildren but all our SSN begins with a different number. I don't think state have anything to do with the number. Also this is three different generations so time and technology could have change things.

All a SSN does is confirm that a particular number has been issued to a particular name.

It is only a crime when you try to benefit or fraud the government. If the college shop requires a SSN then provide them with one. They will want more information before they will accept you, and usually that's more than one appointment or meeting of the minds.

If you perform the shop are you going to say ------>"Hi, I am Joe Blow and I would like to filled out a college application and I am going to use a fake SSN." ?

Back in the day a SSN wasn't issued until you went to work. I got mine at the ripe old age of 11 and although my "job" was only for a few days, it was paid by check and taxes were deducted. The first three digits of the number do determine the state where it was issued and would normally be the state of residence at the time. The reason sojo would have multiple prefixes is because each state has multiple prefixes.

I did not have to provide a SSN, either real or fake, on my college shops. The college asks for one during the financial aid part of the interview and uses it to run some type of check. It could be a credit check because they are looking for any outstanding student loans.

I got mine when I was 15 or 16, when I needed one to open a bank account in my own name.
