Reveal Mystery Shop Question

Hello!

I'm fairly new to the mystery shop business and I have my first reveal mystery shop coming up in about a week. I was wondering how you reveal yourself? I'm afraid I"ll just blurt out something stupid when I'm trying to tell them I'm the mystery shopper... I'm doing some sandwich shops, if that helps at all.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Anna

Anna....I have only performed one "Reveal" job and it was for a new product coming out-I didn't even know what the product was so there was no chance of saying anything I wasn't suppose to, I handed out free samples of the Mystery Product.
sorry not much help

I haven't read the instructions closely for the sandwich this time as it is still a few days away. Last time they wanted you to reveal immediately, so I had my paperwork in my purse and as I was putting away my change and receipt I pulled it out and with a smile said either "Congratulations. You were just shopped and you were successful." or "You were just shopped. May I speak with your manager to discuss the results?" Of course either way I needed to get the manager to sign off.

You don't discuss the results with them. You present them with one certificate or the other and get your paperwork signed. This time they are suggesting using a color printer for the certificates if available and there was some indication that they might be posted in the restaurant. So this time rather than folding them in my purse I will keep them flat in a folder or envelope under my arm as I go through the purchase.
Hey Flash,

Thanks! The paperwork says to reveal after you pay for your purchase. And that you definitly need a manager and what not. I like your wording... I was just trying to go over in my head how I'd word it!

I am doing this same shop and I have never done a reveal either. But I am excited to hopefully reward someone for a job well done!

I hope we all experience this in our coming shops. On the last round very few reward certificates were given by me because the employees did not do the upsell part. How about any one else's past experience?
I did for them this past March. Just realized it came out again. Looks like they reduced the pay and ask you to measure a few things. More work less money ahh.. I don't know if it's worth it but I like the sandwich. We'll see.

Last time I carried a folder (with all the papers inside since we needed to write down the prices and lots of stuffs) and some books to disguise as a student. smiling smiley

I would say something like I'm working for xxx company and I'm here to evaluate the restaurant. Could I see the manager please? Then you just handed the paper and so on..

btw, are you on yoville? I just remembered seeing someone same name there which is odd to see here. smiling smiley
sorry anna my "REVEAL" was very diferent from you were asking about....yes still learning all this.

Last time more of mine 'failed' because of the clings than because of lack of upsell. Late in the sequence I believe lack of cling or wrong cling stopped making an automatic failure.
I have, just recently, done my first reveal shop. It was really nice because the kid passed. He was so excited! It was like he won the lottery. smiling smiley It really made my day.
I have done many reveal shops and all you have to do is follow your shop paperwork and be yourself. Each reveal can be different, some want you to talk to a manager and go over results of your shop or audit, while most have a "pass" or "fail" card or certificate with you not giving any explanation and they can call or talk to one of their supervisors as to the results. As for starting, I usually ask to speak to the manager or person in charge and start by saying, "Hello, my name is ..... and I have have just conducted an Audit/Mystery shop of your establishment. Then I follow whatever my instructions have stated. Hope this helps!
I've been having fun with these lately. Almost all of the places are doing exactly what they are supposed to do, so as soon as I have my receipt and change I look at them with a big grin and say, "And, I'm going to need to talk with your manager. You just got mystery shopped and you did great!" While they find their manager, I get the paperwork selected so I can instruct the manager what he/she needs to fill out while I start my observations. If they didn't succeed, I step aside a moment, collect my papers and then return to the counter to ask to speak with the manager.
I say "Hi I'm your evaluator from XXXXX and you just won!" I smile brightly while saying this, then say something like "Good job, you upsold well!" I found from experience that if you sound like you really know what you're talking about they are less likely to disbelieve you and get nasty about things. I did one two days ago, handed the girl the certificate and she went flying for the manager who gave me the eye. I was very relaxed and matter of fact, showed her from a distance the rest of my paperwork (so she couldn't grab it like one guy did) and I matter-of-factly told her she had a good employee. Everyone got all happy and they left me alone to measure and write those blasted prices, which are different in every darn one I've done so far.

If it isn't successful, I say something like "I'm your evaluator from XXXX" and then hand them the other certificate saying something like "This is to let you know I was here." I then just get the info I need, say something like "I need to look at a few things, take some measurements and I'll keep out of your way." Again you say it matter of fact, friendly and polite and move around like you really are from corporate and know what you're doing. If the employee eyes me up while I'm measuring the purse rail and whatever, I throw them off the scent by measuring a couple things that don't need measuring, nod my head approvingly and keep moving. By the time I'm done I've circled the place and end up by the door where I slip away and escape.

Yes, moving and behaving with the assurance that you have every right and authority to be there doing what you are doing does make it easier. I pull my DVR out of my pocket so they can see it even though in reality I am recording to the external microphone. I don't write down any observations but just dictate the report in sequence before I gather my papework, thank them and head out the door.
