GROCERY SHOPS: Another way they may spot you!!!

In addition to past posts about cameras, store detectives, and off duty employees shopping, just remembered that many supermarkets have two glass in their meat departments. So keep this in mind when taking any notes...they might see you.

no reason to be writing anything down anymore. Use your smartphone to take notes in one of many free notes apps......no one thinks of anything on their phone because everyone does it.

That works for people who have a smart phone. Not all do. I only got mine recently and haven't used it for MSing very much because I'm not used to it yet. Still trying to figure out the best way to use it. I did make use of Evernotes to read a ff cheat sheet someone here was kind enough to send me. But reading is one thing, thumbtyping is another.

dont thumb type. download swype for free and you can drag your finger over the keyboard. it is much faster and easier then typing.

Some grocery guidelines prohibit note taking or cell phone use while on the premises. When allowed, I find an unmanned aisle, or go to the restroom, and use my phone to dictate notes. A DVR can also be used to record timings, names, etc., though I use it less and less in ms'ing. Another method is making notes on a shopping list, or sales ad. For years, I have jotted down the price of each item that goes in the cart. Many moons ago, I learned shorthand, which keeps any interested person from reading my notes.
I tryed swyping... it's not all that accurate. I was spending more time fixing what it came up with than it would have taken me just to thumb type. I'm anal about spelling so I have to fix every typo.

(Actually I don't really use my thumb, it's my index finger but I still constantly hit the S when I want the A or vice versa.)

I'm learning to use Siri on my iPhone. Typing on the iPhone is still slower than pen and paper.

swype is highly accurate after the first day or two. You generally don't have to "swype" your finger across every letter as it should auto complete the word with the correct spelling. It also learns your writing style and auto adds word you want. After spelling a word, make sure the one you want is highlighted at the top before continuing. Only have to do that in the beginning so it learns your writing style.

We are talking about this program and not one of the knockoffs: [www.swype.com]

Maybe I'll give it another shot... if I can figure out how to turn it back on. smiling smiley

I have that feature on my phone, but only have come across it by accident. I'll try finding it again and see if I can make it work for me.

Record all of your shops if you have a smartphone. Just download an app if you don't have one. Then let the phone record everything during the shop. you can talk on the shop and say people's names, descriptions, etc..no one is usually near others in grocery stores. Just put the phone in your purse and leave it there during the whole shop. Test the phone to make sure it picks up your voice. The phone picks up a lot most voices. If you have a pocket closer to your face it is even better.
I recorded all my shops even before I got a smart phone. I have a spy pen I love. Stick it in a shirt pocket and go. Backed up by a regular digital recorder in my purse.

some places are horribly noisy with poor acoustics and those always seem to have the most soft-spoken cashiers. Seems to be a common thing with Jack in the Box particularly. Don't know why they are so noisy but I have trouble hearing what the cashier says on my recorders EVERY time I go to one.

I anyone else having problems with the new "In touch In site" shop submissions ? I've done hundreds before for Experience Exchange... now they are a real bear...!
If you already have Swype but have turned it off, check under "settings." There should be something about keyboard (or maybe language or something similar).
