Do I see hotels in the future?

I just was approved as a shopper with A Closer Look, which I understand has hotel shops in the Phoenix area. I am really really really hoping to get one. I'm even happy to start with the lower end....the idea of getting away for a night and having it reimbursed really works for me. Wish me luck!

They have a couple on the board right now. But I wonder how much they will shop hotels in Phoenix during the off season. You might need to wait until October before they do many of them.

Well, there are two available that are even fairly close to me but both involve checking in tomorrow night and that is not going to work, I have committments I can't get out of tommorow night. But, good news is that sometime in the future I may be able to get one of these. They even had bonuses attached so I'm thinking it might not be too hard to get these in the future sometime. I realize this is work and not all fun but a comped night of HBO and the AC turned down to 60F and a dip in the pool all work for me!

I came back to add that I found out they even have a shop in Tucson at a place that I almost stayed at once! I love Tucson so I'm liking that!

ACL often changes shop windows for shoppers. Just ask.

Yes, just ask. Email them and state a set of dates that would work for you. They will probably assign. If you see the hotel shops when ou sign in that means that you are eligable for them.

Usually, if this hotel shop is not assigned, the due dates will change. The first time I did one, I had just signed up with them and didn't think I could ask for a different date, so I waited until the date I needed became available and requested it. They did hold off until the day before check-in to approve it, probably because they didn't know me from Adam and wanted to see if a more qualified shopper also requested it, but now I email ahead of time when I know I'm traveling.

You have to take a lot of photos, but these reports are very easy in comparison to any other hotel report I've seen, so you actually get a chance to enjoy your time away from home. Also, with these "lower end" hotels, you don't have to pretend to be fancy, snooty and demanding, and that's a big plus for me.

A Closer Look is great to work with and they offer a lot of support to new ACL shoppers.

If you are able to shop during the week, you will love it. All the ones I ever see are during the week only.

I hope your experience with ACL's "lower end" hotels will be better than mine. The hotel I did for them was disgusting. I'm surprised I didn't come home with bedbugs. Halls had flickering lights, the whole place stank of curry and garlic, there was hair in the shower and the bed, and the television looked like it was from 1978. I had to take photos of everything negative and I must have taken close to 50 photos. Then ACL criticized me because I didn't get a good close-up photo of one of the hairs! All that for no pay, just reimbursement of a crappy hotel.
