Testing Centers

Yep, I totally forgot that I had to talk to the admin and see if there was a way to cheat. Yeah, that was awkward....

I did one, for $60. Had to stay in the room for 1 hour, and had to fail. That was really the hardest part for me - because I am beyond competitive.... So I took the extra time to go back and make the correct answers I had entered wrong. Not hard, easy report, because you have an hour to consider your report...
For some time here, a while back, I regularly saw these with BARE for the $60 to $80 range, over a period of a few months. I thought this was normal. Then I started seeing them for $30 to $35, and thought "WTH?!"

I kept contemplating doing one, at the $60 to $80 range... but was really busy with other shops during that time and the scheduling thing was a concern... plus what I'd heard about having to try to bribe and/or ask the testing people about cheating made me nervous... plus if I could pull off looking like I belonged in whatever test I ended up in.

But for $120, I'd certainly have to give it much stronger consideration!

How hard do they make you push about the cheating and/or bribe thing?
Is there always an essay part, or does that depend on what test subject you get?
How much narrative in the report? I like using the hour to consider your report!
At what point do you find out what subject matter you'll be testing on?
How long does it take to get your date scheduled? How much influence does the shopper have in picking it?

My instructions said to use phrases like "I really need to pass this for my job" and if that didn't work to use a phrase like "money is no object" and if that didn't work then use a phrase like "I have several coworkers who will also need to pass." So yeah, pretty hard. My administrator was pretty pissed off at me by the end of it. I found out immediately when I was assigned what test I would take. What subject you get shouldn't really matter? I mean you're not trying to score well on it, it absolutely doesn't matter at all what your score is. You get to schedule it yourself, I chose the first available date but my local center only gives the test I took either 2 or 3 days a week (I can't remember which one). My first available date was 2 weeks away, they were fine with that but I don't know what they would have said if I chose a date the next week.

The one that I did required no essay and I did not have to bribe anyone but it paid $30. Maybe the one with the bribing paid more.
I think the essay that was mentioned was the one for the test itself, not the shop, which is why I didn't understand the concern. You can type gibberish, you're supposed to fail.

I did one of these shops quite a while ago. Can't remember what they paid, but it was interesting. I don't recall the report being too bad and I thought it was fun that I passed the test to become a certified home inspector. On the other hand, since I passed the test, it didn't necessarily inspire confidence in home inspectors, certified or not.
I've applied for a couple of these, and Bare turned me down because I'm too old. So, how is it NOT believable that a 63-year old grandmother needs to take a re-certification (or other) test. I'm not DEAD!
It depends on the test, some are for GMAT and these are the most strict with security because in many foreign countries they try to bribe the administrators. These are the ones with video recording, fingerprint scan, etc. The home inspector, etc I have seen people of many different ages when I have taken the accreditation tests. I usually take one of the 1-2 hours test for $65, only within a 3 miles from me, and if it is a cold, rainy, snowy morning. Once they had my name misspelled on their system, but was correct on my papers and id, and they let me take the test without notifying the test headquarters! So the head of security called me and I had to write essays about the incident, but they paid me extra for that. It was funny because the center administrators thought I was upset because I wont be allowed to take the test and I was worried that I wont get paid after dragging myself from bed early to be in the center on time.
I checked my records: I've done 2, both for Bare, paid $30. They used the palm scan. Pretty easy assignment. The 2nd time, I didn't even have to 'try' to fail; it was on real estate banking. I'm a designer -- what do I know? I felt sure they knew I was a 'ringer', I got so many wrong.

The one I most enjoyed passing was for a Dental hygienist X-Ray creditials. I have no idea how I managed to pass it!
