If I get this shop, will I be embarrassed?

I just applied for an "adult merchandise" shop here in Phoenix and I'm not sure but I think this shop is for a nationwide chain? It pays $15 with a $30 reimbursement if that rings any bells. I'll see if I get it but my question is - if anyone here has done it, it is like a really seedy kind of environment? I noticed the neighborhoods this shop is in are not that bad so I thought I'd call up all the collected wisdom here and ask.....

I doubt you would be too embarrassed. You may pass up some of the more graphic x*y*z* toys but if it is like the store I shop here, there are all kinds of things that are great for batchelorette parties and risque gag gifts. They also have candles and incense and lingerie. They have books and movies and some make me blush.....they are pretty graphic .... and a little "alternative"...... The adult shops that I do here does not have stores in your area, but I would love a $30 reimbursement - here the pay is $15 and reimbursement $15. I always go for the lingerie. These shops keep me in panties and stockings.

The first time I shopped one I was surprised by the number of women shoppers. All the employees at the ones here are young, attractive and very respectful females. I was surprised by how tasteful it was. Definitely not like the stories you hear of the dirty old man in the grubby t-shirt looking shoppers up and down and who has a "back room" with the really smutty stuff.
Would you be embarrassed to enter if you were not shopping it? I have been pretty desensitized to the adult entertainment world over the years, but still, I hate the feeling of walking into an adult store alone, particularly if it is one of the sugar coated varieties with a young female behind the counter. If it's close to you, consider a (no. please don't go there) a dry run.

If you have a kid in college, just buy handcuffs and send it to him/her. They love that stuff.
I wish I could find a shop like that to get my son some Christmas presents.
If you know any crossdressers, get 'em high heels in large size for men.
I guess I'm showing my age....
Wish we had that type of shop here on the Right coast. My wife would love that stuff.

Silver Certified on the Carolina Coast. You want fries with that?
I've never shopped an adult store, but I have been to them. One was particularly sketchy and uncomfortable. It was what I feared those stores were like. But the last one I went to was amazing. The cashiers were extremely knowledgeable and the atmosphere was friendly (even with the more extreme things on the lower level). Try reading online reviews of this particular location.

(On a side note, I hope to find out which MSC this is... I could certainly use some new items!)

The OP did not actually name the store, so could name the MSC in theory.

This MSC did have an adult store as a client but lost the client to another MSC about 4 months ago.

It's Beyond Hello if anyone is wondering and yes I did not name the client.
I remember years ago, walking into one because I was curious and who do I see in there?

My dad's friend and his young boyfriend. He almost dropped dead when he saw me. I just winked at him = whatever! smiling smiley
I have never taken one, but I could have sworn I saw them on there recently. Time does fly, so maybe I am wrong....

I've done so many here in California that I ran out of stuff to buy.
Yes, it can get uncomfortable for some people. especially when they take out the "toys" to do a demo.
I was cracking up writing those reports though.

They still have them in my area. I got an email about one yesterday.
I saw one posted by MCP about a week and a half ago as well. Didn't take it as it was too far for the fee, but definitely sounds like it could be fun!
The first one I did the shop was empty (except for the two employees) and I really, really wished there had been more customers. I guest it was just the wrong time of day. Even though the employee seemed cool, I just felt like all eyes were on me. They weren't but it just felt that way. So that one I felt embarrassed. So try to go when there are more people so you won't, you know, stick out.
LOL

they emailed me here in Denver for that too...

i've been to them.. buy some French Ticklers and you'll be happy smiling smiley smiling smiley

not always seedy, but some interesting employees.
Austinmom, maybe just in your area. MCP is still shopping
adult stores in many states.

I could be just the chain that is here. Too bad .... the new MSC has an independent scheduler scheduling and she prefers younger shoppers ..... so I've not shopped it since it moved. I hope the client goes back to MCP.
I see one here but you might skip signing up for the frequent shopper card which will get you mail!
too bad the scheduler is not with the times. Don't agree
with only younger shoppers for this type of shop. Plenty
of older people and perhaps more so are into buying this
stuff.

I don't think it is the scheduler who makes the rules. It's the client who is paying for the shop who is saying "We want someone who is..." If this is the same company that has taken over, I have spoken to the owner and she says, "the client would like" on all of their shops. She usually always honor what the clients want in hopes that they will accept the shop and the shopper can get paid.
How comfortable are you with purchasing any of the items? If you're comfortable with that, you probably won't be embarrased. The MCP shops in this area are at stores that might be considered seedy by some people, but the interiors are nice and they have made a big effort to make the stores couples friendly. They've hired a lot of female employees. I've done a number of shops with them and I've not been embarrased.
I did one of those shops because I couldn't pass up a $50 bonus. I'd never been in one of those stores before and wasn't quite prepared for what I saw. I was somewhat puzzled about some items and then realized that certain things were NOT statues or decorative items, nor did they carry dog leashes. The one here had movie viewing booths and one was supposed to evaluate the cleanliness of these booths and the restroom and whether there was biological residue anywhere. I was to listen for staff-customer interactions and observed one older employee (70+) asking a customer if they wanted a blow-up doll with teeth or without. I had no clue at all about a required purchase (when the reimbursement was still around $5) and finally spotted a funny bumper sticker on their clearance table that I knew a friend would like.

The part that weirded me out even more, if that was possible, was when some guy followed me to my car and wrote down the license plate number.

Have never shopped one of those places since.

Wow, you've certainly confirmed my decision to leave this type of shop to someone else!
The closest store of this type near me has a few religious nut jobs protesting the place and taking peoples pictures and license plate numbers. Great place to stay away from.
