Sunoco Contest

@ JamesBond ~ I use frogg toggs cooling chilly pad towel. I've had the same one for a couple of years now. I think I bought it at Walmart or an outdoor/camping supply store. It works great for kayaking. Hint: I keep the "towel" wet in its original container and keep it in the fridge until I am ready to use it. Extra chilly at that point. Love it.

I just got a message that you have to stay for the full hour and give an award to all qualifying customers that show up during that hour. They are allowing us to cancel with no repercussions based on this new information. The only one I have scheduled is only 2 miles away at the beach, so I'll probably keep it. But I don't plan to accept any that show back up on the list because of cancellations unless they're also really convenient.
I've asked for mine to be cancelled.

I just requested my 15 locations be canceled. I was hesitant to accept the jobs to begin with but convinced myself the "average" shop time would be 20-30 minutes. Now we are being asked to stay a full hour and award multiple gift cards? With photos and surveys for each winner? Oh, no. Not for $10.

There are over 70 of them in my area and no one is grabbing them up (and yes from a major MSC). I'll wait and see if they bonus them and take the 5 or so around my house. I'm not doing it for $10 on a holiday weekend. No way.
If you enjoy socializing and having great feelings about helping someone get some free gas, then these are the shops to do. The reports are not that hard, some documentation and photo's of the winners.

Some people tried to cheat by driving around the block and coming back, but I had my own guidelines and wouldn't issue them another card. I know times are desperate but let's play fair, folks.

I always took a card table so it would make it easier for the winners to fill out their information and I, could sit in my chair while they completed the paper work.
I grabbed one that was close. I will see how it goes. After that I will call my good friends at this MSC and offer to do a route for $x per shop which I consider fair. Most time I could see is 2 hours per shop one on site one imputing so $30 per shop seems fair.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.

Sunoco isn't in my area, but I'm just curious. What would you be doing that would take an hour to input?
Uploading pictures and imputing survey info from winning customers. I estimated on the extreme high side.

I'm waiting until closer to the dates of the shops...hopefully the pay goes up past $10.
Just curious, has anyone actually received the materials and performed any of these shops yet?

Yes, received the materials within a few days of signing up and ended up doing two (only because I was waiting nearby anyhow for my son to finish his cross country practice and had to kill time). The first station I completed had construction on the road in front of it, but I did get one winner. I knew the 2nd one would be a total waste because their business comes from automotive service and their gas is 10 cents more than the other two gas stations on the other opposite corners. I simply sat out front and read on my Kindle and checked the four cars that came in that hour. No winner at that station. The two reports took 15 minutes total. I will send the materials back today (They provided the paid postage and envelope).
There are over 30 of these shops in a 25 miles radius of my house. I am hoping they go up over $10 but nothing yet. Anybody seen any increase in payment?
All of them in my area have been snatched up but that is not surprising. My area is inundated with shoppers who accept shops right away and for low pay. And I do not think they are all newbies. We have desperate people who need any amount of money and on the other side of the coin, bored housewives who MS because they do not have anything better to do.

There's one in my area, 3 miles from my house, but I won't do it based on 1. the low pay and 2. I don't care for this msc.
My wife has 7 of these shops scheduled, but has yet to receive any materials to complete these shops. She agreed to do these shops on July 1st and July 2nd.

She kept the shops for the $10, which her and I have debated about. These are probably going to be cancelled if the materials don't arrive today.

I don't get it because if we are late turning reports in, our reports are excluded and we're not paid, but they can be late without penalty. That's not very fair.

@ DantaInOH ~ If you are waiting on printed materials, the MSC will just blame it on the printer which they have no control over.

My wife just sent them an email stating that either the shop fees need to be adjusted or that she wants them cancelled.

They cancelled the shops... which is fine, but it proves what a shitty, arrogant company the MSC is. The mindless twits think they can change the parameters of a shop to benefit them, but they balk when a shopper requests more money?

The scheduler and the MSC can take those Sunoco shops (and their $17 car shops and all of their other shops) and stick them up their collective asses. My wife and I only do mystery shopping part time; which means we try and schedule things a couple of weeks in advance, and when a MSC drops the ball like they have, it pisses me off.

They felt like shafting us this time, no big deal. Just remember this the next time you beg to have any kind of shop completed, because it will take a big motivator (Hint: $$$$) to get me, or my wife, to accept another shop from them any time soon.

Message to the MSC, which does have schedulers who read this forum:

You are one MSC of hundreds; doing your narrative-heavy, low pay shops (because you are too cheap to pay a person what they are worth because it might hurt your already inflated profit margin) is no longer worth it to me or my wife.

I couldn't agree more, Dante. I no longer do shops for them. Will they at least give you and your wife a "hero citation?"
I just cancelled the three I signed up for. Was supposed to do them on 7/5 but still haven't got any materials. And of course the requirements changed after acceptance. Not going to sit in the Florida sun in July for an hour for that low pay. Interestingly the response was swift, within 3 minutes of my submitting the request the jobs were back on the board...
@ shpilkus ~ What part of Florida are you in? The two shops that I cancelled were snatched up quickly in my area. It is amazing what some people will endure for less than $10.00 an hour. But I realize that some people do not have many alternatives. sad smiley

Probably not, considering they are too cheap to even tack an additional $5 per shop on them and would rather cancel them. I'm sick of being nice about the @#$%& this MSC pulls on a regular basis. They think the shoppers need them, which most of us don't.

If I want to work for a shitty company that doesn't value their shoppers, there's at least another dozen companies I am registered for that I can choose to be used and abused by. OTOH, there are numerous MSCs that value both me and my wife as shoppers.

I just finished reporting the only one I was able to apply for when everyone else was grabbing them up. It went quite easily and the hour passed faster than I expected. None of the 27 vehicles had a decal, so it was a non-event. It's a small station at the beach with one island of 4 pumps. It was cloudy with a good breeze, so I didn't get drenched in sweat. The conv. store was busier than the pumps since their gas price is so much higher than most of the other stations in the area. The locals with any sense know they just have to go over the intracoastal to find far lower prices. Tourists get ripped off, as usual.

I'm on the Space Coast. I'm working on convincing my wife to drop hers. She took double-digits of them, but that was before the requirement to be on site for the full hour came out.
