Geo verify bah humbug

Well, to all who say they refuse to use Geoverify, may I remind you this is a very competitive industry we are in. If you won't use it and I will and we both want the job . . . guess who will get the job?

For now, all I can say is, "More shops for me." I used Geoverify tonight and it was spot on. I'm on Verizon now. When I was on a prepaid cheapie plan, it was not as accurate. Since I got my new phone (Samsung S4) and Verizon service, I have not had a Geoverify error even once.

I made $150 for the shop I did today, as long as I didn't hose up the shop somehow, but it won't be rejected for lack of a Geoverify code.

But most MSCs and shops don't even require it, so there nobody is losing out. After all this time I have heard of one single shop where it is non-negotiable.

I had one that required it so far, many that asked for it. No, it's not required by many at this point, but there may come a time there will be more. First they need to get the bugs out of it, and it appears progress is being made in that regard.

I heard of one shop in my area, a fast food shop. Shucks, I missed out on a free conveyer-broiled burger, and it wasn't one I could have my way. I'll be okay.
The geoverify-required shop I did was $30 and calorie-free.

Hmmm. $30 would not cover the monthly expense for me to have a smartphone. (Cheaper, prepaid data plans do not offer service in our area. Only US Cellular will offer to open a contract with someone in our area. Don't want a contract… had to do some finagling to get a Tracfone.)
To each his own I guess-I LOVE my smartphone grinning smiley

I don't want one at all. My husband has his for work, so if we travel it is available. I see too many moms at the park messing with their phones when they should be pushing their tots on the swings. If I had that capability I might become one of those moms. Or one of those people who so rudely plays with their phone during a meal, in line at the store, walking down the street not watching where they are going… not having the capability saves me a hundred bucks a month, too.
Let's say that I now have a regular phone. I go out and purchase a smartphone so that I can geo verify. So, now I get to deduct the new smartphone plus the extra data usage cost off my taxes?
Tracfone has about 4-5 smartphones for around $100 and they all have triple minutes for life. The way they work is for instance if you buy a 200 minute card it will give you 600 minutes, 600 text messages and 600mb of data, all good for 90 days. They work off VERIZON towers so you must have Verizon services in your area.
No. Not Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint. Only US Cellular, and only then with a contract. Tracfone does not open new accounts to someone living in my area without talking to them first so they will understand there will be no data. My husband has a fair connection on his iPhone (not great, but okay) with Verizon, but his company had to work out a deal to get service since it is not offered in our area. It is offered ten miles from here, but not in our town. AT&T let me continue service from another state for a while, but it was spotty with postpay and their prepay has nothing, nothing at all. No Go Phone, Virgin Mobile, Boost, o2, Alltel, Net 10….

You don't seem to believe me. Go look up availability for the zip code 51632.
I wasn't directly speaking to you, just commenting on how tracfone smartphones work
gotcha. Cell service is a sore topic around this house. All the major carriers boast 99% coverage for the nation's population. In this case, and this case only, we are The One Percent.
I've never used GeoVerify for any of my shops, but I have a hard time understanding why it is so buggy and inaccurate - it's been around for over a year and people are still reporting the same issues. There are lots of secret shopping apps out there that use the same type of technology, and they can immediately recognize when you are in the store. There is no excuse for GeoVerify to have this many problems for this long!
There is an upgrade that many report havig no problems with.

I hear that many Sassie platform MSCs are going to move to using Geoverify in the next 12-18 months.

You'd be surprised how many holes there are in cell phone coverage once you leave the major metropolitan areas. There are still lots of places where you can't "hear me now."

Time to build a bigger bridge.
600 MB of data wouldn't last me long at all. I'm at 2GB used with my billing cycle ending tomorrow night at midnight. At home my data usage is minimal because of Wifi.

GeoVerify is great. Now those that were already
not doing the shops properly can just geoverify
without even going inside. At least before they
had to go inside to get a receipt or business card.

Or if you are savvy enough you can geoverify
right from the comfort of your own home...
can do shops all over the state in record time : )

Well Geoverify is there for one reason only and that is to verify via gps technology that you are where you say you are. Now there can be a lot of discussion whether that's right or wrong or exactly why the MSC's feel they need to use it but that is the bottom line.
While it may change in the future there is one constant I've noticed. The companies that jumped on the Geoverify bandwagon also had some of the crappiest, lowest paying shops. It may fall back to getting what you pay for. And yes, I realize d got $30 for one, but I thought that was a bonus for a rural location and not the starting rate.

BTW, we are also going to see a surge of apps permitting offline input of the surveys we use. Enter the survey and the pictures anywhere; upload when you get to a good signal. Within about 18 months, all of the major reporting platforms will have this sort of app.

they also tend to be the companies that want
a business card, receipt and a time stamped
photo of the front of the store...

trendsource inhouse developed app is great.
You can enter quickly and effortlessly while on-site.

I use it when I do their shops. You also are given the
choice of checking-in on the app and if you do then
no purchase is required.

Yes. If it's used in your business, you can deduct a percentage of the costs of the phone and service. I got my smartphone for mystery shopping and I use it all the time for that. I also do gigwalks that require it -- I made $25 on my very first gigwalk and have made over $100 in total on them. I have used my smartphone to report shops from the road. When I couldn't log into About Face (before I discovered the "secure login" trick) from any computer I was able to report the shop through my smart phone on the mobiaudit app.

Before mystery shopping, I used my phone to take and make phone calls, and occasionally to snap a picture of a cat doing something cute. Now I use the smartphone all the time, and nearly always it's for mystery shopping, although I also get emails for my other businesses on it. But they are rarely of the urgent, timely nature as the mystery shopping communications.
