I picked up several of these last month, it was fairly easy. Count customers and reps in store, ask to buy a prepaid card, see if they recommend cheque cashing services, etc. Maybe the ones I did are different than the ones you are talking about?

Which MSC since you did not mention a client name?

I suspect Gene is talking about the three shops I will be doing soon, where you go to a bank or Western Union or some other place, present a check they won't cash, then ask about a pre-paid debit card as an alternative. The idea is to find out what information the clerk gives regarding fees, reloading it, etc. You don't actually get the card, just brochures and information about it. You're portraying someone who doesn't want to use a bank, but needs a card to make purchases.

the MSC mails you a check to take in with you; it is your fee for the shop, you deposit it in your own bank after using it as a "prop" in the shop.

I haven't done mine yet, I have three assigned, I'm waiting for the checks to arrive. Hopefully they're in my mail box already. I want to do one today because I really don't want to do all three in the same day.

I named Western Union because they are not the client; either the client is the provider of the debit cards, or the client is a company doing research on them. I won't know until I get there if both the WU and the bank I'm assigned to sell the same cards or not. The shops are being done in a variety of different places.

So now that I've said all that, gene, is this the shop you were talking about, and if so, did you have a question about it.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
I so very much wanted to do this shop. I applied to everyone on my board, but I'm new to that company, so...no dice.
They're being cautious because they are mailing checks in advance. I did not get accepted the first time I applied for one shop from the $75 part of this project. I applied for three more when they came out with a variant paying $50. I have done a few shops for them before, but it's been over a year and there were only three shops. I got an inquiry asking for MSCs as references. I named four or five of the big ones for whom i have done a lot of shops and this time they awarded me all three that I asked for.

I know it's hard when you have to have shopped for an MSC previously to get a plum shop, but maybe this is our incentive to pick up a few cheap shops from every MSC if we can, just so they have us on record as being reliable and doing quality work.

I'll never get that ham shop someone has because the only jobs they seem to have in my area the rest of the year are young women's clothing shops and I don't fit the demographic for those so I can't get my foot in the door with them that way. :-(

Time to build a bigger bridge.
The only other shop they ever have in my area is a hotel restaurant where you have to come up with a bogus fault with your meal. I just can't bring myself to do it.
