last minute shops

Ever sign up for a shop only to find out it went to someone else? Or have you been contacted by email to do a last minute shop that was the one you had signed up for but didn't get? How frustrating.

You will see this all to often! A Scheduler will originally assign a shop to a different shopper. Then, something happens and the original shopper can't (or won't) complete the shop. Now, the Scheduler is faced with finding a new shopper to do the shop before the deadline (which is now approaching fast). Since you also expressed an interest in doing the shop (because you applied for it), you become the Schedulers best hope of getting the shop done by deadline.

Try to take as many of these "last minute" shops as you can and very soon YOU will be the original shopper assigned because the Scheduler will figure out that YOU can be depended on and you have helped them out of some "tight" circumstances.
I got a last minute shop with no extra bonus. I told him that I could not take it unless he could reschedule it for a day that I could do other shops to make it worth my while. I cannot make a special trip for one location for what they were paying. Last minute shops should have a bonus added!!
I agree...and wouldn't that be nice?!? Fortunately, SOME companies still believe in that.

Also, don't forget that YOU are a business. As an Independent Contractor (NOT an "employee", you don't just have to take the shop for what they initially offer. If the stated fee is not acceptable, you can tell them, "Sure, I'll do the shop, but since it is last minute and I'll have to rearrange my schedule in order to fit it in, I want $xx.xx to do it." Then, it's up to them to decide if they need it done badly enough to pay that. If not, you didn't have the shop to begin with.

Having said that, especially NEW shoppers, try to do some last minute shops at what they offer so that you DON'T get the reputation of an extortionist and DO get the reputation of being a shopper that can be relied on and who is willing to "help out" in a pinch. BOTH are remembered and shared with others...just like WE share about our experiences with different companies.
Speaking of schedulers, does anyone know how to become a scheduler for a MS company? It seems that several of the companies I work for have schedulers that work from home?
On last minute shops you can always ask for a bonus and the worst they can reply is 'No'. And then you can accept the shop or not accordingly.
But it's good to do some without looking for a bonus, so that when you do ask for a bonus, you've a better chance of getting one.
I have found it to be true (pay raise) doing last minute shops. I have done several for one company and received an email from the scheduler offering and extra $10 if I could do it by a specified date. It does pay to be prompt and help out if you are able when they are in a bind.
I take a few last minute shops, not often, but I do. Most times I dont think about the extra money that I could make. The last shop that I did was a casino, and I was asked since I was going to be in the area if I could help out. I did and have been offered better shops by the scheduler. Sometimes doing something to help others gives a better reward than just the extra money.

yeah, I see what you are saying. That is helpful if you can get better shops or some shops at least. I think it is also a way to get some extra $$ since you know they need it done they will pay more usually. Not always. Your status does make a difference though when it comes to getting shops!
