Giving SSN to Client
Apparently the bank is asking for the SSN number to approve the shopper for the work, and if we don't provide SSN numbers we aren't going to shop those banks. I choose to shop those banks if possible so I approved Maritz's giving them the SSN number and I hope I can keep shopping without a hitch.
As far as releasing Maritz from responsibility, I'm pretty sure I've already done that once in the initial IC agreement with Maritz. Maybe the bank is asking for the release separate and apart from what we agreed to in the IC with Maritz. Dunno. Guessing here.

I'm guessing they want to screen in or out anyone who is already a customer of the bank. I can't imagine why else they would want it. If that's the case, if you are a customer, the bank already has your SSN. Did they ask if you were a customer?
Time to build a bigger bridge.
They did not ask if we are a customer of the bank. I don't have accounts at the bank, but I do have their credit cards. Wonder what's going to happen?

I also only have a Freedom card but no accounts with the bank.
I have almost everything they offer -- seven credit cards, two each checking and savings, retirement accounts, and I'm applying for a mortgage with them. I don't know if they would be salivating to have me or if they wouldn't be able to use me at all.
I won't know for at least four months. It will be that long before I'll be doing any route shopping again and I only do bank shops on routes 100 miles from home.
Oh ... I opened most of the above on mystery shops almost 2 years ago. Before that I had a few of the specialty cards -- Southwest, Quicken, Amazon -- but banked somewhere else.
I wonder how many other shoppers changed banks because of what they learned on mystery shops.

That's ridiculous.. if they wanted to know whether I had an account, they can search me up. Why do they need SSN? Not that I have one but still. Are they doing soft credit checks or something? Am I tired and missing something here?

For wealth management scenarios, you need to be in a certain economic bracket so maybe that is what they are looking for. Once they have your SS#, they can even see how much money you have with other banks.

Well one bank was trying to get me to switch banks and they knew exactly how much money I had in the savings account (rounded to the nearest dollar) from the other bank. It was creepy.
This is why I have an EIN number instead. With all of the uncertainty surrounding fraud and theft these days, NOBODY will be getting my SS number. No job is worth that. I'm even shopping with prepaid cards this year instead of my usual credit and debit cards.
FIrst time i have heard of this I have been doing banks for maritz for three years and never asked me to share it however I am going to get an Ein starting this next year its getting to flaky out there with hackers breaking into systems..

Have been shopping for Maritz for about 17 months but new to this forum. My in-law works for Microsoft cyber security in Western Wa and he advised me NOT to let Maritz share my SSN with any clients. No more blue banks for me under the new criteria. Just thought I would share.
