tracking mileage

These are definitely day trips. My days normally last a minimum of 12 hours and have gone over 16 hours.

I also should have said I'm not comfortable claiming meals for anything less than a 10 hour day. The meal thing is fussy. It can be taken down the road from your home, but I would definitely back it up.

Years ago as a travel agent I would meet clients 2 miles from my house. If it was an expensive meal, I claimed it, but I kept really great records. It helped if I managed a down payment on a trip.

I keep records of every thing. I have a cheesy coupon folder from Dollar General. All receipts that are not required to be uploaded go in it. My labels are meals, gas, etc. the end of the month I attempt to put all this info in an Excel spreadsheet.

I save all receipts for items that might be potential deductions digitally. Thermal receipts fade, my digital copies could potentially last forever.
