What is the coolest job you have done as a ms?

My coolest shop was a time that I got to be a double agent. I saw the name of a business owned by a friend, where I sometimes work. I looked closer, and saw that the shop was being paid for by a competitor and not the business owner. The shop required that conversations be covertly and illegally recorded, then a commission only salesman was sent to a remote location in order to observe the sales pitch and capture pricing, practices, and product data. I completed the report with my friend over a meal and turned in bogus information and old brochures. His company information was protected, I got paid for the shop, and I got a free meal.

Hate the game, not the player . What would you have done differently?

If you don't want to give information about companies to their competitors, don't do competitor shops. Defrauding people and taking their money is far worse than anything a competitor shop has ever asked anyone to do. Don't get self-righteous about what they're doing so you can feel better about stealing from them.
Not a matter of self righteousness. Only "right" so far as being in my best interest and in the sense of bro's before ho's.

So you, also, would feel greater loyalty for a mystery shopping company's client than for your existing business relationship and friend? Were my actions more or less fraudulent than the people who performed the shop as instructed? I'm not sure. I am sure that I'm the only shopper, real or otherwise, who did not break the law in performing this shop.

Either the National Aquarium in Baltimore or when Disney puts a movie out and I get a free viewing on Saturday plus payment.

If you didn't want to shop your friend's business for a competitor, you could have cancelled the shop. In fact you should have done so anyway because of the inherent conflict of interest. You instead chose to lie to the client so you could get money from them, which is the dictionary definition of fraud. If I were an employee of any MSC, I would be making a real effort to identify you right now.
Interesting. If you saw someone trying cheat a friend and business associate, wouldn't you at least warn them? If not, how serious would the crime have to be before you were motivated act?

Please stop feeding the troll. Thank you.
Back on topic... Another great perk of ms is free clothes, food, movies and golf!
I just got a route w/ steak every night! My last route was wings every night. So I guess that is another great thing about ms: building a route w/ meals included!

I have my first movie and dinner shop coming up in a couple of weeks. Should be fun.
Goat-racer and dead body locator are among some of the most interesting I've done.

Her Serene Majesty, Cettie - Goat Queen of Zoltar, Sublime Empress of Her Caprine Domain
I am a big fan of the Cinco Boys Shop, the charm jewelry shops, getting paid to eat samples at Costco. I did have a fabulous weekend of shopping staying at 2 different W Hotels down the street with 2 high end lunches and 2 high end dinners . .. and room service. The garden shops are also great! I love buying plants, so why not get paid to help out my garden. =)
I'll admit to being a "Top Gear" junkie [the BBC version, not the US version]. As a result, I love car shops. I think the most fun have been the Porsche dealers. I also enjoy shopping Cheeseburger in Paradise. Oh and just about any video shop, better pay and usually no [or minimal] reporting.

Have PV-500 & willing to travel.

I wish I loved car shops. Just break into a sweat even thinking about them so I know it is not a good fit. Just applied for my first casino shop. Close to home, too bad it is to check out their RV park and not the casino.
I got two free pair of eye glasses last year. That was about a $300 value. I like the golfing shops also.
I really love the technology audits. Take some photos, count computers/tablets/etc. $50 CAD per shop? 10-15 minutes? Probably one of the most profitable shops I've ever done.

Another cool one but wasn't so high paying was evaluating credit card employees while at the Raptors game. Also I did a GUESS shop recently.. because I did five locations, I received a $20 bonus on each of those stores plus the LEGO shop I already had picked up. Found some nice black jeans, dress and tops that cost the original fee for the shop. I pretty much got paid for buying clothes for free. I am in love with that store now.

That casino is extremely intense. It also requires about $2500 up front. I don't recommend it at all for a "first" casino shop. There are much simpler casino shops out there.
I'm getting my carpets cleaned next week which will be the largest reimbursement I've ever received.
I am getting my carpets cleaned for the third time. First shop handled by the lousy MSC, and I managed to get reimbursed. Second by the current MSC and no problems at all. I get them cleaned about every 2 years.

Definitely the 7 day cruise I did. It was intense with narrative and reporting (over 100 pages in Word of straight narrative) but the trip was awesome and I would do it again in a second. Getting fully reimbursed for the cruise for two AND getting paid to do it....yes please!

Second on the list is the furniture shop where I was reimbursed $3000 for a leather sofa and love seat. It was a once in a lifetime shop, I think they only did 4 of them nationwide (one in each region) and while the reporting was intense - had to report on everything including the delivery and setup of the furniture as well as return to the location with questions after delivery - it was totally worth it.

My favorite shop was staying at an upscale hotel down on South Beach....not to evaluate the hotel but to evaluate the internet. That was easy. I love banking shops when they are bonuses offered.

I also love doing medical video shops.

My favorite was a audit for a testing company. I had to schedule an exam, sneak a cellphone into the exam room (in my sock was good enough to not get caught), use it during the test and see how the employees respond. I was never caught. I was able to text my wife, look up answers to the exam, and even use the cellphone calculator to help withe math parts.

It was weird because each testing booth had its own video camera and I had the cellphone out so they could easily see it on the video if the employees looked.

After an hour - I put the cellphone back in my sock and finished taking the exam.

I was not allowed to pass so I just picked random answers on the boring parts.

Overall, it was fun shop - it was like I was a spy - well, I guess that is exactly what all mystery shoppers are - but a spy who could get in trouble if caught. LOL.
Wow. You set a low bar for morals. What could you do differently? How about don't take the shop. I'm just stunned that you would do this, and even more so that you would post about it. My hope is that schedulers figure out who you are and cut out all of your work.
Mine was definitely pairing a hotel overnight stay with a very nice dinner at a restaurant... on my anniversary! Sweet!
I have had so many amazing experiences since I began mystery shopping 10 years ago. I had dinner in a revolving restaurant at dusk in Canada. I was able to see the Panama Canal during a hotel shop in Panama. I got a HELOC at prime minus .25 as a result of a bank shop. I've seen cities in Canada, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvadore, Santo Domingo and Guatamala that I never would have seen otherwise. I've traveled the US and stayed in 4+ star hotels and resorts. I've HAD to get massages at spas, rent chairs on white sandy beaches, and order decadent desserts. I am so thankful for this job. I've also met some really wonderful people at conferences. The perks just keep on coming!
Can I carry your bags? I will work for food! smiling smiley

My favorite was a semi-national bar chain called Flying Saucer. My wife and I got 2 drinks, 2 entree's bar food. The shop was super easy, and the beer was great. The beers were usually 23 oz. We moved and had kids...no more bar shops.
