What kind of item? Is it in the instructions you must carry it around...?
I was in a different store for the carry a large object scenario to see if and when an employee offered to get you a shopping cart. I toted a toilet for twenty minutes and no cart offered. Since they were so helpful I set it down in a nice convenient place, like inside the men's fitting room.

I didn't even know Big Lots was shopped!
Yes, they are shopped. I've done two and would be happy to do more. Yes, they have a carry item. In both cases I was not offered a cart but an employee took the item from me and carried it to check out where it was waiting for me later. Luckily I actually intended to buy both items. Had that not been the case, I would have had to "change my mind about that".

I carried around a lounge chair cushion for 25 minutes. Was asked about a cart at the checkout line, a little late to help me. smiling smiley It was four feet long. I look forward to doing this shop again.
you can carry something light like a pillow...i think the direction specifically say that....when it was last posted it was listed as 'quarterly' and that was about a month ago. i don't now if they rotate months..like doing store A in January, store B in Feb, store C in March, store a in Jan, etc
I did none and carried a bedspread. It was light and no one offered me anything included a pleasant hello.
I had a similar experience during one of my shops. It wasn't with Big Lots, but it was a similar type of store. To be fair, the item wasn't really that heavy (about 20-25 pounds), but if the employees had been paying attention, they would have seen that I was straining/walking very slowly/lightly sweating. I had to stop to rest a few times. Every once in awhile, though, an employee seems to pick up that I have some mild mobility problems and offers to help without directly referring to the issue. This typically results in a glowing review.

bwahahahahahahahahaha! ya'll know she's just @#$%& ting us, right? (pun intended winking smiley)

I mean, come *on*, now... toilets weigh an average of 100 pounds give or take, depending on if they're one piece or two... not to mention the complete and utter awkwardness of even lifting one, due to the shape ~ let *alone* carrying it around... for twenty minutes no less??? Suuuuuuuuure. Hey wait ~ unless you're an Amazon?? That *must* be it. winking smiley

And even if someone *could*... why on Earth *would* you?! When there's things like large pillows or a blanket-in-a-bag and stuff like that to carry around?? I mean, they don't pay us to be stupid, and certainly not to be *that* memorable. hahahahahahahahaha!

But it's a funny little tale to picture in one's mind. (:

I have schlepped a king-sized comforter around Big Lots twice and never got offered a cart or assistance.
I grabbed some more of these shops. smiling smiley I get a big pillow, because to me, the laundry basket is too bulky and the comforter is too heavy. The pillow works greatsmiling smiley

I have yet to have an associate offer me a cart!tongue sticking out smiley I have done quite a few of these and they hardly say hello...
I have yet to have Big Lots assist on a non shop or a shop. Or even find an associate-easier said than done!
I have seen one big lots shop since I started shopping this past August it stayed on the board for 3 days then poof. Too far away for me to get to easily.

I hear you. One store had "one" associate, stocking the shelves and no more...tongue sticking out smiley
Which company does Big Lots shops? Am I allowed to ask?

You are allowed to ask, but we are not allowed to answer violates the ICA we all signed and it is against forum rules.

As an experienced shopper, you have probably noticed that every time you sign up with a new mystery shopping company you are required to sign the company's independent contractor agreement (ICA), which almost always contains a confidentiality clause prohibiting you from revealing the names of their clients or any proprietary details. Most of us here take the agreements we sign very seriously.
I hope you're serious, because this is seriously awesome.

Wait... There's a store that sells both toilets AND menswear???

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
I did two Big Lots shops and carried around a plastic storage tub. I wasn't offered a cart either time. The shops were pretty easy. I didn't take them until they were bonused, though.
We have an big lots here.. But I guess Iam not sign up with the right company or there is none in my area sad smiley

I think if I had to carry a toilet more than ten feet, I would sh*t myself. Guess that would be a valid reason to 'change your mind' along with your shorts!
I will say that this shop is one of the easier ones out there (at least IMHO).
I know of one Big Lots retailer where I live, & I have never ever been in that store. Maybe I should go one day and check it out. The folks around here seem to like that store.
