Can we just agree to ban these threads?

"I'm going to be in such-and-such place. Are there any shops?"

My questions to people who start these threads:

Are you the first person to ever travel? How do you think we all find our own shops?

What if 5,000 members all posted where they were traveling?

Have you tried using the job board here or the search function?

Have you tried changing the location on every job board that allows a search?

Have you tried reaching out the the schedulers that know you?

___________

Super annoying. Sigh

Good suggestions above. I never have liked doing the other guy's homework for him!
I do use the job board here (and on MSPA) for destinations.
Even if we all agreed and even if it went in the posting guidelines it would still occur because even with our simple, "Do not reveal the clients of mystery shopping companies" we still get loaded with 'who shops whom'. Sometimes you just need to ignore and move on.
In addition to Flash's comments, some of the newbies who begin by making such a post have gone on to become regular contributors who enhance the forums. Unlike the other forum sites, we prefer err on the side of not throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Basically I think many people who ask that question are wanting to know which msc (they are not signed up with) have jobs in the area they are going to. I visited my daughter and did not find any jobs available where she lives in any of my companies. So rather than sign up with perhaps 100 more companies to find one or two jobs I might ask that question as a seasoned shopper. Not all of us are signed up with the entire list of 200 + companies for our daily shopping near our house.
And I do find some questions annoying but this one you want to ban comes up a lot less frequently than most of what I find annoying. I mostly hate the rants some posters get into that go on and on. There is one recently that went on for pages that I thought was ridiculous. Evidently others did not feel the same way as they kept on replying and replying and keeping that one alive. These kind of questions are lightweight compared to those types and disappear from view rather quickly. I agree totally with walesmaven that questions like these do come from new and old posters most of whom we do not want to push away with an attitude.
I travel a lot but I would not advertise where I was going and what dates I would be gone on a public forum. Just asking for trouble.
I don't think the purpose of the forum would warrant banning anyone's post but we can certainly ignore posts like you describe or ones that ask who shops what or ones that warn us to beware of a certain MSC for the evil they do (usually written in caps). They are tiresome, boring and of no intrinsic value.

Thank you walesmaven. I started this adventure well over a year ago and I readily admit I'm still profoundly clueless.

I'm always thankful for the insights I find from the shoppers like yourself and othe members that help someone like me. Hopefully one day, I'll be able to pay it forward with credentials to back it up.

In the meantime, this is one struggling shopper that appreciates every member of this forum who takes the time to help another shopper..

Most of those threads are posted by people who simply are asking a question. They have no idea that regulars have seen it many times over and sometimes the question runs afoul of industry standards. If the repetition bothers you, the post/thread can be easily ignored, yes?

If they show themselves as a troll, that is of course another story.

That is correct vlade, the post can be easily ignored and I feel no inclination to respond to any poster who asks questions like described earlier. I guess that is ignoring it. However, new poster or not, I find it annoying that not the slightest bit of research has not been done prior to the asking. Even a new poster should understand the basic rules simply by reading through a few previous posts, especially on the new members section or perhaps by reading the agreement signed with a MSC.

That should be the norm, but it isn't. I don't remember when it became the norm to glom on to someone else to do your work, but I guarantee it was rampant in the mid 90's. I had a class & I deserved a solid F maybe a high D if that's possible, but ended up with a C because I did my own work. It helped that:

A. I did the work
B. I understood it.
C. Ethics & professionalism. I turned in someone else's paper that was 6 weeks overdue.

I couldn't pass an exam during that semester of my major to save my soul. The professor would pull me aside and ask 'what happens with you and exams?'. I'd shrug and say I don't know.

I agree that people need to put in the work. But in my experience most will do their best to get someone else to get it done.

I will admit I want to ask everyone on this forum how to get more shops. I don't, because those are the rules. I will continue to sign up with more companies and hopefully one day I'll be able to say...WhooHoo, this really is the best gig ever.

In the meantime, I'll read this forum so I can learn from the experts.

This is a newbie who tries to do her research. And a very thankful newbie for everyone who continually answer the same questions over and over again.

Agreed with the annoyance. I feel it as well.

However, isn't that the norm on forums in general? I have done it a few times - I had a question about something, usually technology, did a little research and the answer didn't come up easily. So I found a forum and quickly asked a question there hoping that someone would give me a direct and helpful answer. Couldn't that be the idea that many newbies have when they come to this forum?

So, I'm on a road trip to Easter Island, does anybody know of any available shops there?

I know a terrific video shop for a bridge sales presentation in Brookyn, and we could swap info!!

I know that seasoned members get tired of hearing the same questions over and over again. I belong to a BBQ/smoking forum that goes through the exact same thing, as probably all forums do. So I know to try to research my question first. My problem is that whenever I do a search here, it just gives me threads where my words can be found in only the current threads, and not necessarily on the topic I'm trying to research. I do have lots of questions, but if I was better at using the search feature, I wouldn't have to bother you good folks with most of them, I'm sure. Is there a post somewhere on the forum that explains how to search for what you want? Those of us who are completely techno-challenged could certainly use it.
There are several aspects to search. You can search by poster or topic and you can search a variety of date ranges. So if I search BBQ as a topic I can see about 5 threads, but that is only within 30 days. If I go to the little drop down, I can select 90 days, Last Year or All Dates will give lots more results (probably too many).
My favorite ask before research is gardening. I get slammed regularly. I do have a friend that's slaps them upside the head, because the snarky do not understand TX.

Then how about a "traveling" thread instead?

No offense but I usually just skip over threads that I don't have an interest in. I don't think that it's a good idea to ban a question that you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

Motivation increases when we assume large responsibilities with a short deadline.
Instead of asking about a shop, I have had people that know where I live PM me and say they know of a great shop that is in my backyard that needs to be done and tell me to check in or sign up with a certain MSC. This has happened several times. I also learn where they are and and if I see a shop near them, I'll repay the favor and point them to a good shop.
