MSPA membership.

I have been Mystery shopping for 9 years. I am Silver Certified. I did not realize that I had to pay $25 a year to continue being a member. Should I join again? Will I have any benefits? I am not interested in video shopping. I would like to take the Professional Industry Writing if offered. I am 71 years old and have received a 10 for most of my narratives.

Your Silver Certificate is your Silver Certificate. You do not have to renew your membership to retain your Silver certification. I see few benefits to the Silver certification (I do have the Silver) and I see no benefits to being a member. I have not renewed my membership, but I still use my Silver certificate and I still receive communications from MSPA member companies reaching out with jobs.
I find myself scratching my head and wondering, "Why?"

1) You are obviously an established shopper getting shops easily enough since you are still shopping after 9 years.
2) You are obviously writing 'better than the average Bear' if you are getting mostly 10s on your narratives. I would suspect that 'Professional Industry Writing' is likely to be very basic, such as no opinions, match of noun and verb for number, writing in the past tense, etc., so I fail to fathom why you anticipate it would be useful.

If your goal is to take classes, there are free on line writing classes, or computer classes, or car mechanics classes or any of a number of on line free classes to meet your interests.
I agree with AustinMom. I did not renew my MSPA membership going on 2+ years now and I still get job offers from their membership list. I have more work than I can handle these days so I do not need memberships for work. I am silver certified and I still use my number when needed.
I do not have silver certification. Over the years, I have seen one shop that pays a few dollars more for silver certified shoppers. When I am in rotation for the shop, I ask for that extra amount, and get it. Also, there have been recent shops that allow self-assignment with an 8 rating and a silver certificate. I have the rating. The silver I have is metal, shiny and valuable. So, I had to apply, and was assigned the shops.

If I thought I were missing out on good shops, I may rethink it.
I don't have first hand knowledge, but It has been brought to my attention that silver certification is no longer even offered. A "dinosaur".
Thank you all for your replies. I thought that maybe I was missing something. Love this forum.
