Confused about 640 x 480 pixel photo

I sent a photo that was 640 x 480 pixels. I sent it in landscape format. The MSC sent a note back saying while the pixels were right, the photo was in portrait length and it needs to be in scenic view. I am just confused. So do you send your 640 x 480 photos in portrait view or landscape view?

I check again and the editing programs says the photo was horizontal 640, vertical 480. That is landscape to me but they said it was portrait length?

640 x 480 is horizontal or landscape. 480 x 640 is vertical or portrait. Adjust accordingly.
You are correct that horizontal, also called landscape, is horizontal 640, vertical 480. I have noticed certain editing programs will automatically rotate an image when you view it, but will leave the underlying file in it's original orientation. Are you looking at the properties of the image file or are you looking at the properties of the image as shown on your screen?
I am looking at the property of the image file. I sent them a landscape view photo but they told me it was a portrait view. Maybe they are the ones confused? I don't know....
Can you view the photo in the actual saved report? Could the software have, for some reason, automatically rotated it? 640 x 480 is indeed landscape (scenic) format! It sounds to me as if your photo either "got rotated" by the software or somebody at the MSC accidentally rotated it. Or somebody there is definitely confused about what portrait is vs. landscape. From what I've learned over the years, that could very well be. Some of the employees of MSCs aren't the brightest bulbs in the box. Some are sharp and on top of things. Others? Not so much. Maybe you have one of them.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
Ask them which direction it should be rotated 90 degrees, clockwise or counterclockwise. Rotate it accordingly, save it, and send them a copy. Even if it looks wrong to you after you rotate it, it should then look right to them.
I'm sure this is a dumb question, but is the image in the photo upright when viewed in landscape view? What I mean is, did you take a photo in portrait mode, and then rotate it to landscape causing the subject to be sideways?
I am not sure if I took it in portrait mode and rotated it. This was a test photo that I needed to send in before I can be assigned shops so I just used a random photo that was taken years ago. Thanks for everyone's input, I appreciate it.

If I ever do a shop I will remember to take it in portrait format and avoid rotation.
