Hmmmm . . the infamous $17 burger shop

I just received an email from the burger shop (I'm on their mailing list because I like their food and they offer coupons occasionally) asking me to print out a survey and fill it out after my next visit to their restaurant. The questions are just about identical to the report we fill out for the MSC. The email offers NO incentive to fill out the survey. What the heck! It will suck if they drop the MSC and try to do it on their own. I'm not filling it out in protest!!

I agree totally with you, its another way to cut out the MSC by using luring customers to do the job of our clients. Its best to hit "delete" unless you did have a bad experience on your own dime. AT&T is becoming pushy with their QC by using robocalls to hunt you after talking to their reps. Best Buy when you order something online generate's another report for you to fill out without offering anything to cover your time. Just Say No!
I get requests to do surveys quite often; almost every place I shop (personally) or do business. I wouldn't do a survey with no incentive unless something was really bad.

I recently did a bank shop for two MSCs. The next day, a third MSC emailed me a survey.

"I told myself to quit you; but I don't listen to drunks." -Chris Stapleton
A shake is not required and if you opt to get one it comes out of your $17 fee.
It doesn't bother me so much when a business does this cause they're a business and of coarse they're going to try things to save themselves money. In my experience working retail surveys just won't ever truly replace MSC's. Customer information especially when an experience is good, is hard to come by and even more difficult to get details. Often times they'll get subjective info like "it was a very pleasant experience" or "the cashier was very nice". That doesn't give the company much to go on, on what the customer thought made their experience pleasant or what the customer thought made the cashier nice.

What DOES make me mad is when an MSC agrees to send out surveys for a business to their mystery shoppers "for a chance to win $500" or something like that. That's INSULTING to me. A certain MSC out there who happens to have the same initials as a derogatory term starting with the word Mother, is famous lately for this.

They're basically saying they think your detailed input isn't worth anything and as an MSC they should not be helping the businesses by offering an avenue for the business to pay less then a true mystery shop but still get detailed results

Forest Gump said "Stupid is What Stupid Does"! I can't see any of our shoppers here fall for the old "Gift Card in the Mail" routine because its hard enough for us to get referral bonuses and gift-cards we earned by helping some of our quality clients find good matches for tough shops. I will do the surveys through my clients and let them bill their clients who pay us for our time with merchandise and pay. How many shoppers have actually got to see that Pink Unicorn known as the "Free $500 gift-card", funny how you used their initials. Their having problems getting some of their shops filled where I live, according to Job Slinger their getting old. We need to be loyal to the companies taking care of us and hit "delete" each time they try to cut our clients out.

Not to be contrary, but it was Forrest Gump's Momma that said that. I believe Forrest would see that as an important distinction.
