Name tag on chest area.

Do you feel uncomfortable trying to read a female employee's name tag when it is located on their chest area? Some names are hard to read and I try not to look too long at their chest for too long. Sometime I can't get their names because of this and I just write that I couldn't read it. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

No it's been discussed before. Even we women are sometimes uncomfortable trying to read the name tags on female employee's chests...especially if it's an odd spelling or unusual name, or handwritten on the tag, because then it looks like we're staring.

I had one in small print near the male's crotch......and the MSC b-otched because I didn't bend over and stare at the crotch to get the name....they did pay me, but not worth it to do it again....at least if its near the chest you don't have to bend to get close to it..

Don't wear a watch and ask for the time. When they look down at their watch, capture the name. If you do it quick enough they shouldn't know that you looked.

At one shop several employees wore their nametags on the right side of their hat. So much easier (for shoppers and customers), but the company dinged them for doing it. And the Godiva nametags are gold lettering on a gold background. Now, how is anyone supposed to read that smiling smiley ?

I feel more uncomfortable when the employee is much younger than me. Closer to my age, still uncomfortable, but not as much.

I have found the best time to stare at a chest, I mean read a name tag, is when the cashier is making change and their eyes are focused on the drawer. I often pay with a larger bill in these cases.

If I still don't get the name, I might get back in line when they are helping another customer, or I might just report I couldn't read the name without appearing to stare. I have never gotten any blowback from the MSCs.

What about when they ask if the tag is on the right or the left? Who's right or left? On them it might be on their left but it its my right.

kenasch, many employers do not want their employees to have their cell phones with them while working. In most cases, if they are not wearing a watch and have no timekeeping device on them, they are going to say, "I'll go find out for you," and turn around and walk away...

When try as I might I could not read the name, I usually admit that I wanted to know their name so I could thank them, ask a question or ask for them in case I needed some help later. It had always worked for me. But if the name tag is located near the crotch of a male staff, I'd rather lose the shop...I am from old school.

Egads, I am a 54-year-old woman. I can't imagine being perceived as staring at the crotch of some younger man (presumably an older man would be sensible enough to not wear his nametag by his crotch, but who knows, LOL) or I guess looking at the crotch of any person, for that matter. Ick.

I do a lot of bank shops, I love it when some of the banks have a name plate. First and Last name perfect.

And of course the business card that you are supposed to get. And best case scenario, the banker stands to greet you, introducing themself with a handshake, eye contact, and a pleasant smile...

What store on earth allows the employees to wear name tags around the crotch? I hope the employee was just trying to be funny.

Most of the name tags I see that are crotch-level are those badges worn on a lanyard around the neck. Some hang at waist-level or below, making it very difficult to see the name. Not only because of how low they hang, but because they tend to flip over, showing the back instead of the front with the name.

Yes and if there is a counter in between you and where the badge on the lanyard hangs, it's impossible. Then you have to ask for their name if it's required that you obtain it.

Make me glad I do mostly gas shops. Those people NEVER wear their name tags

A little secret I learned about capturing name tags:

Ask the associate a question.

Most people when first answering your question, will look away, off in the distance, to formulate and think about what you are asking. It is when they look away, that I become a "striking vulture" and grab that name! smiling smiley

Try it and let me know if it works for you! It works about 98% of the time.

Sounds good but do you then have to mark them down for not maintaining good eye contact? Just kidding. I stand by my asking what time is it. I've found most employees do wear a watch and it has worked for me.

Sometimes I will look at the name and ask a question - like "Oh is your name such and such - so was my mom, (or sister), If I'm wrong they will correct me, (Got the name !). Sometimes they will turn and show my the name tag, so I can read it and tell me the origin of the name, (it was my mom's sisters, etc.). That also helps me remember there name. There are lots of ways to get people's names. My husband will often pretend he needs something, and say "oh what was your name again?"...

It is just me, or is it more often than not the nametags are backwards on a lanyard? You would think it would be 50/50, but I think it is more like 60/40 that the name is backwards.

If you can't read the tag ask for there name. Some of my gas station ask for a photo of the name tag and dress. I have found 9 out of 10 don't think anything about it

Back when I had a job that required a name tag (last Tuesday), customers used to look at my name all the time. I think the people just look at any words in their line of sight. I try not to get caught looking at the name tag (whether it's a man or a woman), but I think people look at name tags, even if they're not Mystery Shoppers.

I got questioned by the MSC once because I was trying to catch the name of someone. It was an unusual name. They wanted the name but complained because I was looking at the name tag!
Also I hate those name cards that flip back and forth on a lanyard.

I never saw a nametag by someone's crotch. I think that's just asking for it.

I once had a server named Perfecto. I was questioned I referred them to the receipt. It was the guys given name
