car rental..must be willing to spend $300-$500 for 1 day

What the ? are you supposed to rent? a Corvette? It pays $100 and the reimbursement. It is only at the airports..if it was local places I would do it if the rental was only about $50

There are probably a lot of people who would do it if the rental was only $50. That's likely why they're willing to pay $100 in shop fees... there likely aren't that many people who are willing to get to the airport and then rent an expensive car, so they gotta pay more.

Shopper in California's Bay Area
The shop indicates that you'll be renting three cars from three different companies.

I can't figure out how your are supposed to rent 3 cars, for a one day rental only, from the same airport, and return them on a second visit.
The instructions tell you to park your car in a nearby parking lot. It makes me wonder if the MSC/client would pick up the tab if the cars got towed from the parking lot. Lol

I work by my local airport and could park them at my office, but it would also require me walking over to the airport and taking the car rental facility shuttle three times to rent the cars and three times to return the cars which would just require way too much time and frustration for $100.

Paid parking.... I don't know about your airports, but DIA is a large airport with nothing but $8 per day parking lot.

The reimbursement required sounds just about right to cover the expectations for an economical car rented last-minute and $8-10 for 1 day of parking per rental company.

The issue? That $100 is waaaaay too low considering the amount of time required to rent the car, move the car to the parking lot, commute back over to the rental agency, THREE TIMES. AND you have to leave it over night and return to pick up the car. Parking expenses alone will cost ~$50-60 when it's all said and done, meaning each of your car rentals will need a final cost of ~$80 per rental company.

If this was for 1 shop, this would be reasonable, especially if you have something lined up at the airport already. Otherwise, definitely not worth it when you think about the time needed to do what they're requiring.

Anyone know who the Field Staff Coordinator for this project?

You have the right idea.

Lucky for you, Phoenix's airport is located in the metro area. Denver? It's 15 miles OUTSIDE and into the boonies out here in North East Aurora.

And despite that, $100 is still not enough for me to consider it. Lol

Agreed. The amount of time do get all the work done will add up to at least 8 hours.... 3 hours minimum for part 1, 3 hours for part 2, plus another 2 hours for the reports, reserving the cars, etc.

Ewwwww.

Tack on a $100 bonus, then I'd consider it if I was in the area at least for 1 of those 2 days..

Tack on a $200 bonus, then this project can be a pain in the ass all it wants; I'll get it done! grinning smiley

To bad it is not for the end of the month. I would use it to travel to and from Shopper Fest 2016.

And you'd have 3 different cars to choose from and show off grinning smiley

The fee went up to $130, at least here in Phoenix. Still not enough to touch it (nor could I complete it by the current due date, even if it paid enough).

Too bad you couldn't do one car a day. I'd do it for that, since you could actually use them and logistically would be easier
I might consider doing it if the fees went up to say 150 or 200....as it is, both airports in the area are not the closest (a good hour to hour and a half via Public Transit), and both airports have their Car Rental Center off-site.

Parking the cars would not be huge issue as there are a good number of lots which are reasonably priced.

I wonder if I'd be allowed to take one of the cars home with me and drive it back the next day...

I'm thinking $200 is my "I might consider it" point...and I literally work across the street from the airport (although the car rental facility is a bit further).

I have a thread on the company board about this shop. My airport is pretty compact and easy to navigate (and I live 5 minutes away) so I bit on it. Got charged rental fees for the entire week instead of just one day (directions said rent for a week but return the next day). Sounds like there are lots of others in the same boat. Got charged WAY more than $300-500, but have been repeatedly assured that reimbursement will happen.

All in all it took about 4 hours, so for $100 it wasn't terrible. Took about an hour and a half to rent and the same to return. Maybe an hour commuting and reporting. The report was the easiest part.

Let's see... $28/day per car for parking at my local airport.
45 drive each way from the airport - twice
30 minutes at each rental car company (if I'm lucky)...

So... 4 1/2 hours of work + the report so that I can take in $100 - $28x3 = $16.

Now... if it was one car rental and the instructions let me drive it everywhere instead of saying that I had to park it in the lot....

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
I thought this shop was a joke at first, but then I kept getting it in my email. It would cost me big bucks to do this shop. Nowhere in the shop description does it say I will be reimbursed for the $300 cars. I would need the $300 reimbursement PLUS the $100 job fee to even consider this shop.
They are offering reimbursement for the rental, parking, plus $100 (and bonus it appears now). The problem with mine was that I was only supposed to get charged for a day and I got charged for a week. My shopper log shows reimbursement for the full amount pending as of this morning.

Worth it if you can figure out the logistics. This shop got me about 4,000 Southwest points. All are partners and get double points plus a bonus. 4,000 gets you
I received payment and full reimbursement yesterday. I was concerned about the reimbursement since it went way over the stated amount. They were very forthcoming and helpful when they realized it happened. If you can do this shop fairly easily, it is likely worth it, especially if you have an airline rewards card to use for the charges.
A one day, single company car rental shop is on average $60, + $5 gas in major US airports and you can return in 4 hours. Another company starts at $30 plus gas in non-airport locations but it gives bonus and pays any tolls, and you can return in 1 hour. This specific shop discussed here is way underpaying by a notorious company that always does so, with annoying editors. They do not pay airport tolls, no parking for your own car as they encourage for a relative to drop you off, no gas reimbursement.
Look into the costs of doing this --

I checked into the costs for the 3 companies at my local airport, plus the additional items they require you to purchase (was it insurance or some other coverage) and there was no way that the reiumbursement covered even the car rental fees, much less the cost of parking overnight, transportation for me to get to/from the airport (or parking my car), etc. The fee + reiumbursement didn't even cover all of this. I emailed the coordinator pointing this out and didn't receive a reply.

The bonus on this would have to be at least an additional $100-$200 to make me even consider this given the amount of time/hassle this would be.
So they are reimbursing the full amount, even if it is more than the $300-$350 they posted it as?

Is there any reason you cannot drive the cars around all you want? I have a copy of the guidelines and it doesn't say you can't from what I read.

The original scenario said to rent for 7 days, but return after 1. The charge was supposed to be for one day, but two of the companies charged the weekly rate, even after I questioned it. I was reimbursed everything I spent on the job, including parking. My airport has no tolls or other fees and the parking is close with a shuttle, so all in all it wasn't bad.

I was just worried that I would not get full reimbursement. The MSC stepped up and even paid out quicker than normal.

I would imagine you could if you filled the car with gas, but you get mid-size/intermediate cars. Nothing special.
