Hey CHURCH'S CHICKEN- You know what you can do with your $3 fee and "OOOPS" Certificate?

I used to like this shop- even though it was low paying. A chance to give a small $bonus to the people that work hard in this underpaid and often underapprecited industry of fast food. Then they implemented the OOPS certificate- which required me to collect people's full NAMES and SIGNATURES if they failed the test --these names are required when I submit my report. Then to hand out a small &^%$# (printed out on my printer with my ink) *&^ little "Ooops" certificate telling them they had failed the test (in a nice way.) Nothing like giving "the least of these" another KICK IN THE PANTS from Corporate!!

Would YOU want your name reported "up the chain of command" because you did not upsell an item or their was more than X pieces of trash in the parking lot? This shop started out as fun and is now a SICK JOKE. AND if you sign up you will paid the princely sum of a $3 fee! (I dont need any lectures about "if I don't like it I can lump it." This is just BAD TASTE on Church's part. Nothing like pooping on the people that make the least!!!! ............WAY TO GO CHURCH'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This shop would be fine if they would can the OOOPS certificate.

In the military I was taught: "Praise in public, criticise in private." Having a mystery shopper give out an "oops" certificate sounds like 'criticise in public', which I was taught is bad management practice.

I agree with you. It's in bad taste. I would hope they reconsider. If some random stranger came and handed me that Oops certificate I'd lose my job for sure. Because I'd tell them to pound sand.

No matter what the fee, this is a shop I would never touch. Icky! Or is it permissible to simply make the required purchase and toss it directly into the trash bin?

There was a sandwich shop that rewarded the "artist" who did every thing as expected. The reward was a Certificate of Appreciation, which I had with me, and the manager would give a $25 cash award. One artist was a bit on the surly side, but she said and did the right things, so I congratulated her and gave her the certificate.

Her demeanor changed instantly. She was so excited and happy just to get the certificate because she hadn't been told about cash award yet. She couldn't stop smiling and she was twirling around and around in circles. You would have thought she won the lottery. I will never forget the power of a small token of appreciation. That piece of paper generated a lot of goodwill for the company.

Think of all the ill-will the "oops" certificate is generating. That's a miserable policy. I don't blame you for not wanting to do it. That's a mean-spirited company.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.

WOW. A public shaming by a mystery shopper. Sounds like a great way to make a mediocre employee into a surly, hostile one. This is going to improve attitude, morale, and customer service how? Another great idea from someone in an office that has never experienced the fast food world from behind the counter.

I cannot believe that giving an oops certificate would accomplish anything except resentment on the part of the employee. I thought it was our job to gather information to give to the employer so they could take the proper actions. Hopefully in a private room outside of the public eye, where the information would be used as a training tool and not some form of humiliation from a random mystery shopper. There is no way I would do that shop. I am starting to hate all revealed shops anyway.

Ugh. I worked in fast food for a few years. One time there was a letter posted from management at the head office. It said something about some new food promotion and that "it is not enough to be stoic" when doing our jobs! This from someone who was probably earning over $100,000 a year. When you are living on 50% below the poverty line stoic is about all you can expect.

This program is not new. It has been implemented by multiple clients across several MSCs. CocaCola appears to be the primary driver of this program, as the purchase, food, and location observations are either secondary or not evaluated. If this follows the same pattern, the certificate presented depends on the cashier recommending a drink purchase.

That's so incredibly counter-productive, and just plain stupid business practice. Giving out certificates to employees who do a good job--and hopefully them getting some cash in hand, too--is the way to motivate people and show them that they're appreciated.

I've never eaten at a Church's, and they are going on my boycott list right now.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.

Well, I have seen the same program for Popeyes and Boston Market. Like I said, Coke is the one doing it. It appears Coke is able to do this as part of their contract to be certain restaurant chains exclusive provider.

Not a problem for me. Birdy, I think a Coke needs to go to the top of the Boycott List. And the silver lining is that boycotting Coke would have real health benefits.

I did the shop today, and they earned the golden tickets. The District Manager happened to be on site, and it was actually very sweet when I was able to award the team their $10.00 each award. They cheered and applauded, wow. This is a blue collar part of town. I told my son, if they had not passed, I would have left and canx the shop as I could not do that to them. I advised on my report also, that they should only offer the award if the store passes, and not the oops cards. It was very sweet to see those young kids get their prize, and to be congratulated by their DM.

It sure does. I gave up coke and lost 50 lbs in the next few months without making any other change.

Boycotting Coke is no problem for me, either. I don't drink it, and the rest of the family is starting to join me in not drinking soda on a regular basis.

If Coca-Cola is the driving force behind this ridiculous "Oops" certificate, I'll boycott them as well as the restaurants that are apparently bowing down to them.

I agree. I did 20 years enlisted in the Navy- criiticizing in public is a bad idea- and demoralizing. We were always taught to correc people in PRIVATE. The last time I did one of these I had to give it to a hard working new immigrant who looked very perplexed at the whole process. He was very sincere and polite. It was NOT fun. The time before that I failed them as I rightly should have - but felt so bad I came back and gave the the bonus ($25) out my own pocket. (Not looking for kudos-- it was WORTH it. It is more expensive to feel crappy than $25 will ever cost me.) All I can say is "karma" to Church's on THIS one.

I did one of these in November for $18 plus $7 reimbursement. I almost choked when I saw the $3 they're paying now.

I did several of these shops last year and they had the OOPS! certificate, but I didn't have to get the names unless they got the congratulations certificate. No way would I consider doing it for any price under these rules. I can't imagine doing it for $3. My paper, ink and gas would cost more than that.

I've done these for Burger King, Subway, and Popeye's and never had an issue. I issued "oops" certificates to Subway and Burger King frequently and it didn't really bother me. I figured it was the job I was doing and that's what I'm getting paid for. I only did Popeye's once and they passed. They were elated.

I had a tendency to go toward the end of a required period, or an otherwise slow time. I always tried to be discreet with an award or an oops card.

That said, I have no intention of doing one for $3. And I LIKE Church's Chicken.

I did one of these on their first round with that MSC months ago. I waited till it was bonused though. The problem I had wasn't so much the actual "oops" certificates as it was how to handle the questions from the failed employee. They were completely surprised by it, apparently they hadn't been told about the program before hand and they wanted to know how they messed up. They also thought they were in big trouble. The MSC did not give me any guidelines on how to handle that so it put me in a tough position, especially since with most similar programs you aren't supposed to discuss anything to do with the report to the employees. They had every right to ask questions though. When I filled out the report it asked what I thought about it and if I had any suggestions so I asked for more guidance on handling questions about the "oops" certificate. Ive wondered if they took my suggestion. I guess not.

Some time ago, I did a series of fast food shops where there was a "sorry" page with explanations of what they missed, and awards in the $5 range for the entire staff if they won. The shop instructions specifically said that I should give them every effort to win, and they had to fail miserably to get the sorry sheet. Also, the revealed part was to be discussed with the manager on duty (win or lose) in private.

I didn't have a problem with the shop- as many here have said: criticize in private. Also, the stores I shopped had been well trained, and every one of them got the prizes. I made sure that some crew members heard about the awards!

As I recall, this was a Coke promotion.

I was on vacation last week, and that MSC is one I like, so I logged in and saw quite a few of the Church's shops nearby in the area I was vacationing (I've never seen the Church's MS where I live). I know it's bad healthwise but I could eat Church's everyday of the week. So I was going to sign up for a couple of these. I saw the OOPS too and opted out.
I don't mind reviewing people and giving and honest report if something is wrong. The MSC passes this info on to the company and I hope the employees learn from it, but a public display is humiliating, IMHO. .
