Five Guys milkshakes and lactose intolerance.

I just completed a five guys shop and I got to the milk shake portioned of the report. it was flagged and asked why I didn't buy a milk shake. The scheduler called me last minute to do it for a $20 fee but I didn't hear anything about the milkshake part during our conversation. God dang it. I am lactose intolerant and I get gassy and sometimes have diarrhea when I drink it. (I'm not sure the amount of lactose that the milkshake has). I probably won't get paid for this shop. Much bummed.

oh well. I aint gonna fret. just gonna move on with my life and take it as a learning experience to ask the scheduler if the milkshake is required. If it is required, I'll drink the shake if I don't have work that day so I can worry about the consequences in the comfort of my home/bathroom.

I sympathize as I am also Lactose Intolerance and have switched to Almond Milk, having no problem Won't do those shops, not worth it, many other shops don't require a milkshake. Buying it and not drinking it would be tough. Good luck and try the Almond milk, excellent and healthy.

My belief is that while you have to buy the milkshake, and you probably have to taste the milkshake, there is no requirement that you drink all of the milkshake. You could probably even spit out the small taste if that is going to upset your stomach.

A. If you are lactose intolerant you probably should have hit the button in the prescreen that you are allergic to some foods.

B. They make lactose tablets that work wonders, but they are not easy to find.

C. All you have to do is buy it and taste it. My mother is very intolerant and that much wouldn't even bother her.

I have the luxury of just being sensitive and not intolerant. Buy geez give me a milk based drink two days in a row and I'm not gonna be happy.

Not allergic to anything else, but milk plays games with your stomach, very bloating. I take a stomach pill, and don't drink milk, although I love Ice cream, but the low sugar sucks.

Didn't you read your CPI? You'd have known the shake was required and could have then cancelled it or purchased the shake and tasted a sip or two. As has been noted here, a wee bit generally doesn't cause a problem for most lactose-intolerant folks. I feel your pain, though. My brother has the problem, and it's very uncomfortable. But every so often, he'll treat himself to a small ice-cream cone or dish of ice cream, and it won't bother him.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
ALWAYS read the CPI. There are dine in, internet and call in shops. In addition, once a month there are, as you discovered, milkshake requirements. Hopefully the lesson learned here helps you in the future.

I have a mild to moderate case of intolerance. If I am going to eat some of those foods--they better be really good like Cold Stone Creamery ice cream. I will suffer for that coffee ice cream with coconut and chocolate-yum.
That's sad, but we've all done it. Hey, sometimes these editors get those shops passed through! Crossing fingers for you, especially with the bonus.
Me too, almost. I was bored between my merchandising work visits and decided to check the Arby's CPI, for the dinner shop, when I was sitting at Sonic for over 25 minutes waiting for my order (exasperating lunch shops in a tourist town!). Lucky I did because they changed the sandwich. omg I will miss those 1lb sandwiches with the sweet bacon. I keep lactaid in my purse, you should buy a purse.

have you ever tried taking lactaid? that works for me...and you only have to take a tiny sip...heck you can fake taking a sip although that would not be ethical.

lactaid is very easy to find..any drug store has it...i used to get the walgreens brand because it was vanilla flavored, not orange, but there are also pills you just swallow.
I tried a product called Beano + Dairy Defense and it seems to do the trick. I still won't OD on ice cream though.
Dave:

I am also lactose-intolerant, and i carry dairy tabs with me everywhere. Sometimes i will take 2 of them to offset the lactose, and that usually works, if i don't have too much.
