You are wrong.

"Cell Phones and Germs

Mobile phones not only carry important data, but germs too. The average mobile phone user puts their phone in contact with several places where it can pick up germs.

In 2011, researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine at Queen Mary, University of London found that one in six cell phones is contaminated with some sort of fecal matter, probably because their owners did not wash their hands with soap after using the toilet. Some of the phones were found to harbor E. coli bacteria from fecal origin. If ingested into the body, E. coli can cause fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Recently, students in an Environmental Health course at South University, Columbia sought to find out what germs live on cell phones. Swabbing a sample of 60 phones belonging to students, they found that phones were frequently contaminated with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

“Staph aureus is always dangerous and MRSA forms are worse because they cannot be stopped easily,” says Dr. Robert J. Wolff, PhD, program director of Health Science at South University, Columbia, who teaches the class.

Staph skin infections, including MRSA, can quickly turn into deep, painful abscesses. The bacteria might remain confined to the skin, or burrow deeper into the body, causing potentially life-threatening infections in bones, joints, surgical wounds, the bloodstream, heart valves, and lungs."

Cell phones should not be in a food prep area, period. That applies doubly if it's against company policy.

That being said, I doubt that ceasesmith used those words in the submitted report. And supposedly a lot of cell phones do carry e. coli (not to mention a plethora of other harmful bacteria). You don't exactly need to be a "professional from the CDC" to know that: [healthland.time.com]

On a slightly-unrelated note, hygiene is important, people. Washing your hands thoroughly after using the bathroom prevents people from being grossed out by grimy hands (lol, and more importantly, the spread of disease).

Edit - ha, ceasesmith beat me to it by just a few minutes! tongue sticking out smiley

I would think that the company would have to write the person up first. You cannot fire someone without previous documentation unless they are within a 30 day period of being hired. At least that has been my experience and I was a manager at one time. Now that is not true if they are caught stealing or breaking a major company policy.
Most states are employment at will. Only union people or teachers have to go through what you describe.
A while ago at a fast casual restaurant that doesn't like bad reports, I had to report that the food preparer's pants were below his unders...seriously below. His entire boxers were visible. His belt was under his buttocks..and he was flipping burgers. It was repulsive. I was a bit concerned about reporting it for about two seconds. I just returned to the same location with a huge bonus and the culprit was nowhere in sight, thankfully. I could not believe that no one said anything to him about it, although he was wearing a manager type shirt himself. The best was when he would tug at the pants to lift them briefly..pun on words..What is wrong with these kids that they think this style is cool...UGH.. I felt bad for him that he did not know better. He needed a mama to slap him upside his head.

I just report what I see and I dont think about any shop after the report is submitted...other than to see if I got paid. They would have to pay me to think about what they do with that information...whether they retrain or hire or fire or sit around a fire and sing kumbaya...#idontgiveashiz

I had the same visual at a grocery store. I walked in and saw the check-out lanes to the left, The cashiers pants were below his buttocks and he was wearing bright red shiny boxers. I stopped and stared and just thought to myself "How am I going to report this?" Another customer pointed out the green chicken in the cooler--it smelled so bad it made me gag. The crowning glory was the feces smeared on the floor in the bathroom. That was a shop I did when I was a rookie and I still remember it clearly.
There was a trip to a restaurant...NOT A SHOP...just a trip to a restaurant like a decade ago...we pull upto the drive through window and we can see waist height...the employee was picking his butt so we said no thank you! went in to talk to the manager about this and we are waiting by the counter and this one employee comes out of the bathroom and announces to her co workers how there is no toilet paper or soap in the bathroom and proceeds to take her spot on the line...aw Hell no!
This was the restaurant that wants you to think outside the you know what.
Update: This location was completely gutted and remodelled shortly thereafter and the staff was all new when they reopened, by happenstance or by design, I am not sure but its been great since.

When something like this has happened to me, I report in quotes exactly what they said. Then I try to be as honest as possible about the other things. I might spend some time in the narrative explaining how they smiled, made eye contact, etc. I try to smoosh in some good things in there.
You do realize most of them are mystery shoppers taking notes, LOL!

I am sure that people text themselves notes on their phones...I know I do, but not while on the toilet. I'm referring to the women who were sitting on the toilet talking to people...ick.
