Car insurance companies for a shopper who drives a lot...Thoughts on Esurance?

I live in a rural area, in a rural state... with rural prices -_- sky high insurance. I was looking at Esurance and their rates are about $65 less PER MONTH than I am currently paying. This would be great for me as a shopper so save money and have peace of mind with MORE COVERAGE than I already have but it's an online company "backed by Allstate". Anyone have Esurance or have any stories to add?

Esurance was brought by Allstate a few years ago. Apparently it was a good invested for Allstate to be online while not have the online headache. It sincerely has paid off for Allstate. Esurance had already proved and reaped in the benefits before Allstate brought them. And has prove to be a wise investment. Esurance has never looked back. smiling smiley
I could definitely see those $65 payment savings adding up in just a short amount of time. I'm also noticing a phone plan that is $15 cheaper on the prepaid that would help out. $80x12 is $960 I can put into Christmas, birthdays, or just my pocketbook. grinning smiley

When comparing insurance costs, be sure you're comparing 'apples to apples.' In other words, just because Esurance may possibly be cheaper, understand that in order to truly find the cheaper insurance company, you'll have to compare every benefit side by side to see which actually has the better value.

Very infrequently shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado these days.
They actually offered higher coverage than my current policy. I definitely compared each aspect from coverage, persons, accidents, medical, uninsured/underinsured etc. I'm just not sure how they are withr customer service, etc. I've called my insurance three now for minor/maybe not so minor things. Once, a gravel truck backed over my car while it was parked. A second time, vandals busted all the windows out and stole the tires while it was parked near a hospital. A third time, a jeep hit a slick spot and careened into the car parked in a drive way. I've since moved away from that area, and gotten a different vehicle, whew, but Nationwide was always so helpful on the phone.

Awesome! Sounds like you're on the right track then smiling smiley In all honesty, saving $65 per month alone would really press me to make the move especially since interacting with them regardless claims should be an irregular occurrence anyways.

I may also try a re-quote with Nationwide. I've had them since I was 18 and I'm now almost 28.

Ask eSurance if there are any discounts that phase out. Also, if you have homeowners or renters insurance most companies offer discounts for having multiple policies.

We had State Farm auto and home insurance. They canceled the home because we had too many claims in the fifteen years we have been here. One water damage from leaking pipes, a lightning strike, and hail damage. Six months after getting a new roof they decided to cancel us. We took or home insurance to Liberty along with our cars. Had a friend that had Allstate a few years back and he got in a wreck that was his fault, backed into a car that he couldn't see and they canceled him after 20 years.
Also, you need to have "Business use of a vehicle" on your documents if you are using your vehicle to do mystery shopping / merchandising as an independent contractor. If your insurance company finds out that you are using your car for business purposes, writing off the mileage on your taxes, etc., they will deny any claims. Also, if they do pay your claim and then at some future time find out that you were using your vehicle for business purposes and did not alert them they will sue you and win.
