Video Shoppers: Retrieving files from a damaged SD card

Hello video shoppers and anyone else who can assist me.

I took my SD card out of the PV500 and placed it into the laptop. Imagine my hurt to see that the SD card did not show up. The tip of it is broken so the computer does not recognize it. I tried using ZAR and don't know what to do next as the files recovered are not what I am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Next step: call Dan Thomas of Greyhawk Video (just google it, please). If Dan cannot help, no one can. He IS the man.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Contact the MS company to see if they can retrieve shops from the SD card. How do you store your cards? I put mine in a little tiny plastic container (it does not move or jiggle around).
Yeah, he is if you can get him to call you back and respond to you. There is someone else that does repairs too. I can't find his name right now, maybe somebody will post it.
He is on the IMSC FB pages every day!

This card was in the camera. I looked at the video after doing my last shop. I went to put it in he computer and it did not recognize it. Just like that.
You mention in your original post the tip is broken off. I'm not sure if that means a corner or part of the metal contacts or something else, but one thing you could try is using another device. Run to an office supply store or a Best Buy or something and get an external SD card reader that plugs into your USB port.

The computer's SD card reader may be thrown off because of whatever physical piece broke on the SD card, but that doesn't mean ever SD card reader will be. They are fairly cheap, maybe try a couple of brands of external readers? Or another computer?

BTW, does the DVR still read the card / show the video?
Actually @WeatehrWimp is absolutely correct. Just today my laptop has decided it doesn't like reading off the built in reader for a couple of SD cards while it is perfectly happy with others. I whipped out my handy dandy external reader and the cards the laptop didn't want to read were easily read.
The plastic piece is chipped. I think the metal is fine. I've tried two different computers and I tried viewing the videos from the computer. Nothing. I may have to suck this up as a loss. sad smiley
I hope you are able to retrieve the video and get paid. Flash's idea is what I would do. And maybe Dan can help. Please let us know how it works out.
LOL. It was Flash's idea that you mentioned first, WW? Hahaha. But great minds do think alike, right?
I am blowing you Kisses!!!!!

I had mentioned that I was going to take this as a loss because I had some shops on them. I went and found my Hard drive reader that I purchased for $20 when I first started video shopping (2011). I plugged it in and Viola!!!! I was able to retrieve them.
Thank you

I'll work on my reading comprehension - New Years resolution this year. Regardless of whose idea, I'm glad you got it. Great news!!

AWESOME!!!! So glad it worked for you.

On who's idea...I was just having a chuckle about that with the post above. Cheers!
LOL

I may need to work on my elaborating skills.

Kisses to whomever told me to go out and purchase the SD card reader from BestBuy. I already had one but just wasn't using it. I plugged it in and was able to get my pictures and video files from it. Thanks soo much.
It definitely was @WeatehrWimp, I merely echoed the sentiment because right before I read this thread I was fighting my own SD demons and had found the same answer.
