Wow –– this is big news!

Wire fraud has been such a huge issue in the mystery shopping world. It is fantastic to see such a huge action being taken.

Hopefully this will mean some victims will get their money back.

The government tends to keep the money. All the fines against Toyota for example. I've received settlement checks from an insurance company and cell phone company. Both were less than $20 and a separate settlement from the huge fine paid to the government.

isaiah, it's actually the lawyers who keep the bulk of the money.

Look up the difference between being fined and losing a lawsuit. Our government or certain organizations can set fines, the money goes to them. When we the people get paid is part of a separate reparations agreed upon in addition to a fine, or because of a lawsuit.

Look up the lawyers' fees for a class action lawsuit.

Actually attorney's fees for class action lawsuits are set by the court and the benchmark is 25%. Also that is what they took out of my brother's settlement from BP.

As Isaiah said though, this was a fine, not a lawsuit, and the money will go to the US Government.

The stories I've seen state the money will be used to reimburse victims through a yet to be determined process. Who knows exactly how much will reach the victims. Some of the fine was for activity where there may not have been a victim per se. On the plus side, it means more work for mystery shoppers helping to check up on this type of activity.
Most of that fraud occured in the State I'm living in......especially in the South Valley!
