Wow, do you not eat meat? I find that the single patty, little fries, and drink are way more than I can eat.
Why accept a food shop when you know that the reimbursement will not cover the required purchase? If you are already familiar with the restaurant, you should already be familiar with their food and their prices. If not, the majority of menus are online nowadays with many of the prices listed. Some high-end restaurants do not list prices.
That was McAllisters, that's all I could afford for the $12.. 5 Guys $12 little burger, little fries and a regular drink. Sure, I don't eat the top bun and I find the fries can be warmed in the oven for breakfast with eggs. I'm sure to get a refill for the drink. McD's meal deal $6.
I don't care about going over reimbursement, ever. When I do the grocery shops and they pay $5 and $12 reimbursement I spend as close to $17 as I can. The high cost of eating out at a medium-low rated dining establishment is the issue, to me. I thought, also, since the 5 Guys cheapest combo option is $12 they must be paying the workers well. They do not.
That's a shame since they expect the 5 Guys emps to be "on stage" all of the time. And they are so great at their jobs. As far as McDs goes, I used to do them occasionally when the shops had a hefty bonus on them but it was all I could do to put any of that food near my lips for even a small taste. Gross. I would never eat there on my own dime. In fact, I was following my brother and sister while moving some furniture from Ohio to Texas and they stopped to eat at McDonald's. I ate granola bars and sunflower seeds instead. I do, however, love 5 Guys food. I have no idea what McAllisters is because they don't have it in NE OH.
Back when I was a fat lard, I would order a Bacon Burger, a large fry and a regular drink. And sometimes I would get a large fry from mcdonalds right after.
I bring my own garlic salt to put on the burger. I love the bacon burgers because then there's flavor. I can't even imagine what the large fry must look like, I'll have to order one next time. The little fry is ALOT of fries!
If I could get a Freddy's burger, 5 Guys fries, Sonic shake, Mimi's Cafe cheesecake and Starbucks coffee I'd be in greasy spoon Heaven at $22.75.

Steak and Shake's shakes are the best. In fact, their burgers and fries are pretty good too. I like the little crispy fries as opposed to the hand cut fries from 5 guys, even though I know that those are fresher.
Oh, my, no Steak and Shake here! No in&out burger either. I'll look into those franchises. They wanted $500k for a Pizza 9! Sbarro wanted me to tell them how much I have to invest, and when I did they essentially said I'm not even close. They didn't tell me how much they wanted for me to open one in the other mall here, I suppose I'm supposed to guess at the cost.

A hot dog at Five Guys might be cheaper than their smallest burger if memory serves me correctly.
Also, their hot dogs are DDDDDDDDDDDDDDelicious!

Mmmm good for you there, shoptastic. Hot dogs are not for me. And I stay under the reimbursement with the burger, fries, and small drink at 5 guys. We gotta stick with what works, so if hot dogs are your thing, go for it!
spicy, I get what you mean about going over the reimbursement. Instead of thinking, "I just paid $0.53 for lunch," I think, "DANG my fee is lower by $0.53!"

I think Spicy was more upset about still being hungry after going over the reimbursement. I mean, if you go a little over the reimbursement and are still hungry, what's the point?
It's the cost. Either inflation has caught up to me or I'm a cheapskate. I was ok with 5 Guys burger combo being just over $12 because I thought the employees were paid much better than, say, someone who works at McDs. The manager at the 5 Guys near me posted a help wanted sign and they posted the pay, which was surprising, at $.50 more than minimum wage. And they are supposed to provide entertainment with their happy, cohesive team-work.
Once again, why get upset about the cost? You know what you are getting going into the shop. If you don't like the reimbursement, don't take the shop. It really is that easy.
I'm trying to 'discuss' what I think is an important issue.
There are much bigger things to worry about in today's world. No one is holding a gun to your head and telling you to take a FF shop. Why complain about something that you have total control over? I can see being upset about showing up at a closed location and not being paid for it. Or performing the shop only to find out that the client or MSC has cancelled the shop by the time you get home and refuses to pay you for it.
I don't think any meal I've ever gotten at McCallister's has been over $12.

I love bacon. It's so wrong in so many ways. Its full of fat, nitrates and salt. Horrible for you. I still love bacon.
I take four weeks off a year, two for vacation and two to work for Habitat building a house and to work on getting my shart together a little bit better. This is the first week of the get your shart together weeks, except for the occasional mystery shop. Every year I work on my taxes, finding easier ways to keep track of mileage, looking at how I'm routing and how I can make it better and I then I work with Habitat for the second week. For Habitat we can bring something for everyone, if we want, and I always bring the BLTs!!!! When not working, all I can think of eating is bacon and chocolate!
I love it. Bacon and chocolate are awesome. Some people can eat them in the same bites. I saw somewhere that they have bacon ice cream. Yuk. But I guess don't knock it until you try it, eh?

I think it is more important for a reimbursement only shop to properly cover reasonable costs than for most other formats. For Five Guys the reimbursement part clearly covers a single burger with small fry and regular drink, or most other base entree choices. The fee allows flexibility to upgrade as you can write off the extra costs against the full payment. For flat fee shops it works the same, so the fee determines if it is essentially a reimbursement type shop or has room for making something extra. Of course this applies to any purchase requirement shop.
This discussion is just a slant on similar discussions on doing shops for a discount, reimbursement only, or different goals. If ones goals are covered, then the payoff is right for them.

My point was, initially, how do they value a tiny burger, fries and a coke at $12? What are we, the consumer, paying for? The red and white bathroom tiles, the peanuts and happy employees? I don't want to pay for Jimmy John's family to be able to kill wild animals, for one. But, the contrast of expensive meals and cheap employee compensation is important. When I completed my first 5 Guys, McAllister's, etc shops and I saw the questions about teamwork, looking happy etc, I just assumed these are great companies that are doing things to make these employees happy and that included decent compensation. I'm having a hard time with the fact that they are not. I saw the Survivor show with the millionaire franchise owner and how she talked about her employees recently so that may be weighing in on my dilemma. As I look into franchises, I guess I'll find out.
You want a franchise with integrity? How about Chick-Fil-A? I know, some will argue that one too.
As far as fast casual prices go, basic 4oz burgers are easily in the $5 plus range, with cheese or extra stuff close to $7. Add a side and a drink, your around $12 all day long.
No one is paying a mortgage working at these places other than owners and some management.
You can tip at the walk up places if convicted about fair wages?
The value we perceive is subjective to many factors which is obvious to this discussion as well as past similar ones.
How someone chooses to contribute to another countries animal preservation efforts is also subjective. I read the facts and not just a few one sided observations.

I was very disappointed when the five guys reimbursement, just by pennies, covered a small everything meal. If you want me to shop properly let me order what I want to eat. Normal sized portions. I won't do them again. Pay was not worth the hassle and I am not a meat eater anyways, I tried a few bites for my shop. I don't know about some of these posters that say $12 is normal for a hamburger meal but not in West Michigan it is not. That is ridiculous. Sorry to hear that they don't pay their employees well, they have to do so much work it seems. Even our Mcd's pays $10 an hour up the street.
