Hotel Problem

I am assigned a hotel shop for this Saturday. I am reimbursed for the hotel, bar, restaurant, room service, etc. I've done many hotels before, but none for this hotel. Per the msc, I am to ask for a certain discount over the phone when I book the room. I did this, but was told, "We no longer honor those discounts." I emailed the msc, who asked the client, and was given a different code. I called back (days later) and gave them that code. I was told that code also wasn't valid. Again, I wrote to the msc. They got yet another code and told me to use it. I tried tonight and.....was told to bring in a coupon with that promo code on it!

I just wrote back to the msc again to find out what to do. At this point I've tried 4 times now, and it seems obvious that I am a shopper...who else keeps calling back with various codes? I have until Friday to cancel the room reservation without forfeiting my deposit. I really don't want to cancel, as I'm looking forward to the actual hotel. Has anyone else experienced such difficulty like this on a hotel shop? I'm pulling my hair out from frustration.

I don't think trying different codes until you find one that works will make it obvious you are a shopper. Just a thought, but have you tried googling the last code given to you? That might take you to a page where you can actually print it and take it to the hotel. Another thought: Does this particular hotel job pay you enough for all your hassle?

Agreed. It just makes you look like someone trying to finagle a better deal. They have probably figured that out and are saying no because they assume you don't really qualify for them.

The first time they told me to ask for "The Toyota Rate." This hotel is located near a Toyota plant. The next few times were codes. The pay is not great, but it's a nice hotel and the msc is wonderful. I don't want to flake.

Edited to add: I tried googling the promo code and got nothing. I've completed probably 50 different hotel shops and have never had to deal with this type of situation. I've had this scheduled for several weeks, and I'd prefer not to bail out at the last minute.

You may want to ask the MSC to verify himself/herself the code first before you giving it to you. That way you know it works.
Hotels around here fill up so fast, that I always make my reservations several weeks in advance of the shop if possible.
If it helps any, I'd be that cheapo that would do something like this, if it weren't a shop. I press heavily on coupons and discounts myself. So I wouldn't worry about being recognized as a shopper.
