Over a given year, where do you get your best earnings?

There are soo many variables - but wondered if others see the same trend.
For me -- although they don't pay a ton, the red/white burger shop tops my list for total earned - a grocery store is my highest avg per shop

I don't do video, so my highest are banking shops. I've made $50-$75 opening accounts per shop. There's also one particular msc who shops a particular big name bank every month (not account opening, inquiries) and while the pay starts out low it gets better by the end of the month. Today I made $90 on three shops that took me 35 minutes in person and 20 minutes to do the reports-and that's total time for all three combined.

Interesting question! I was surprised by my own results.
1. Banking
2. FF/QSR (only including Fee+Bonus, not the reimbursement)
Rounding out the top 5 are: Wireless, Apartments, Parking
Banks are my bread & butter shops every month. If I'm on the road overnight, I will admit I have fallen in love with reimbursement only restaurants for an evening meal.

Valet shops can be a beautiful deal if you can stack a couple of shops within walking distance.

My consistently best earning shops each month are nightclub and Dayclub shops. Hotels pay about the same each month as nightclubs but require more work (but contain good perks). Video shops rank 3rd in the months when I can find them. Designer clothing and watch shops would rank 4th.
Banks, apartments/retirement homes and cars for me. I'm willing to drive to a couple areas that appear to not be regularly shopped for some very good bonuses. Hope that continues.
Last year it was highly bonused, targeted bank shops; quite a few at $200 a pop. More regularly it is video shops at anywhere from $40 to $70 (very short valet parking) and new homes and apartments starting at about $60 for short apartment work to over $200 for new homes, depending on complexity and urgency. Yes, there is still a shortage of experienced video shoppers in the Mid-Atlantic region!

No doubt, gas station routes pay the best for me. BUT I have done really well on easy cell phone shops out in the sticks, too.
Reimbursement for food adds up for me, also Dealerships, but at this point, not looking for hard work, easy does it for this gal.

This year it's been convenience stores mostly, that and merchandising. I never guessed the convenience stores would be so lucrative, and, well...so convenient!
I love convenience store shops. And petroleum filling station audits. The past 3 years they have been a bigger slice of my profit than video. Not this year though!

By convenience store, do you mean the market at a gas station? If so, does that mean you don't evaluate the pumps?
The gas station audits in my area pay like $8. Are there mscs that pay more than that?
Most of my convenience store shops are a brand that has gas at most of their locations. I do have to look at pumps and supplies briefly but a gas purchase is not part of the shop. I love them because I can do 5 in an hour and report on an app on my phone.

There are many types of gas station shops. There are audits, then there are several gas station brands that have just mystery shops that include gas purchase but no audit, and mystery shops for the convenience store btand and not the gas brand that usually do not include a gas purchase.

For me it is bonused gas station audits. I've made as much as $115 for a single audit. For a route of 5, 6 or 7 stations I can make in excess of $200. I consider that a good payday, as I don't have or want another job, and do this part time.
In prior years bank shops, revealed audits, and grocery stores comprised most of my earnings. This past year I have been working diligently to branch out into other areas. It seems that parking garage and valet assignments have been the highest percentage of my earnings so far this year. Also, I started taking some very small baby steps into the world of video shopping.
For me credit card shops, any kind of video, and auto repair flat fee. I love the auto flat fee because 100% of the time I am taking my car in for something that has to be done. I even spread it out over dealerships to maximize the flat fee., I also like airline shops. I am probably one of the few people who does not like bank shops. Maybe I just don't do them right!

Let me ask a question or two here. I'm getting ready to retire from my day job and thinking about getting to try shops I have not been about to try in the past because of having to work during the day. Two I have been considering are the post office shops and the business verification shops. Are they profitable in any way? I really don't know a lot about them other than there seems to be lots of them and they seem fairly quick. What am I missing?

Post Office: There are several types of these shops. Search the forum to read other shoppers' opinions and experiences with the various types of shops. They have written plenty! Some of that information will help you to determine if you want to work with the supplies, how to do that, etc. When I did those shops, it was possible to to multiple shops per day along with other shops as needed or desired for my purposes. If there was not a line, the time on-site was what was needed to complete all tasks. There was not a minimum time per location, although though was a minimum waiting period before exiting one location and entering another. Depending upon where you are, you could fill that time with reports, driving to other locations, or other nearby assignments. Sometimes, there were bonuses. The report contained a large number of questions that were answered within a few minutes.

Business Verification: Straightforward. Schedule and execute within a time frame. Some interaction, some images, some other information. Professional dress. Some cities probably have more available than others due to the population spread and number of businesses. Irene does these, and if she sees this, she might give you more information.

I do Business verification (written in another thread)...they do not pay well for the amount of work, however I find them interesting and close by, so no driving time or gas is money in my pocket. You really have to follow instructions, very fussy, once you get the hang of it it's good.

* The regular post office shops take 5-20 minutes inside depending upon how busy your post office is, and ~10 minutes to fill out yes/no questions. They don't pay a lot, but if you can fit them into other things, they're a great gig. If you're willing to drive, they'll bonus at the end of the month.
* Business verification for me was not good. Be picky. Many of the "businesses" here are in people's homes, and I wasn't comfortable with that.
* One that's fast and easy is the payday loan shop where you can buy a money order - buy at the first one, cash at the second. About as fast as post office, but report is a little longer. Still well worth it.

I did pictures from the street for parking lot at manufacturing plant. I made all visits during one week. The pay for three visits got me $60.00 each with total time (pictures, travel and reporting, each less than an hour).
