Major salesman fail

I drive a 2017 Corolla. So I had to come up with a reason I'd be trading in an almost new small economy car for a brand new luxury vehicle. Since we can't say the vehicle is for someone else, I decided to claim I was going to give my Corolla to my son because I need a bigger more comfortable car for travelling.

I did my Cadillac dealer today and had to ask for a specific car which I did. He takes me to the lot and shows me a loaner with 5,000 miles on it. I didn't like it...he then says they have no 2018 on the lot, their all in storage, as the lot is too small......WOW way to make a sale.

I agree with WOW!!!! How can you run a dealership that way? I know a Toyota dealership in our area that when I was shopping for my personal car, had almost the smallest inventory of new cars (I know of a smaller one in a very small town) I had ever seen. I have no idea how they compete against the larger dealers in the area. Their prices weren't very competitive either.

The dealer (Cadillac) is located on Auto Row, 6 blks. of cars, very competitive here....they share space with 3 other brands, not a good look for Cadillac, i was very surprised, every other dealer has a huge building. They also didn't have parking I had to walk 1/2 block..

Sassymmmm, when I was looking for my Prius in the story above and also in the largest of large cities I went to a different dealer first. That salesperson showed me around the lot and showed me only the outside of each car and the stickers in the window. I finally asked if I could actually sit in one. He did not have the keys. He had to run inside and find them and then came out with keys for only one model I was looking at. Yeah, I am really going to plunk down 25,000 or more and not even be able to touch the inside Getting to go on a test drive was even worse. They had to go to the roof and move all sorts of cars around to get one I could try out. They were very reluctant to do that.

It makes no sense does it? It's like they don't want to sell anything.

Another crazy thing specifically related to Cadillac shops is the rotation time. I believe it's only 30 days between shops. This makes no sense to me. Someone is bound to remember you or at least your name if you've only been away for a month. You could even get the same salesperson.

I personally do not do the same location twice, but I may go into another town to do it. I have gotten professional Salesmen who are sharp and want to sell...it's always the lousy ones remembered. I also think some are hiring those without sales experience knowing there is someone there to help. I did Tesla a year or so ago, and kept getting emails to do it again, but refused. Once you do that one you are in their computer, so a sure giveaway. People do shop for cars, their not going to just buy one, so salespeople expect the looky loo's.
I have a old fried that worked his way up to Manager for Lexus and is a sharp professional and on top of his game and does well. The last two Salespeople I've gotten surprised me at how unprofessional they are, the last one probably never sold a car...poor soul.

This shop pays $20. So, I'm going to drive to the location and back and whatever that costs, then I'm going to look and act badass enough to afford a $50-$90,000 car, spend 45 min to an hour there, study the guidelines, remember all that I need to remember and do the report? Uh, NOPE! Why, when I can do two jack-in-the-boxes for $30 in 1/5th of the time? Maybe these are bonused sometimes?
I was driving a 1994 Honda Accord (90k miles!) when I considered the new Cadillac shop. To explain the appearance of abject poverty, I was going to say my sister and I decided it was finally time for our dad to get a new car.
