Church shops?

Anyone ever done one? There are a boatload of them in my area, and I applied for one awhile ago, but I wasn't in the demographic group they needed. But I got an email from the company that makes it sound as if they're really needing shoppers. I wonder if it's worth trying again. But there's a requirement that seems so bizarre: you have to ask a person or stop in at a business and ask about the church to gauge community awareness of the church. Weird, imo....

Really not a weird requirement when you understand that the focus is on both church and broader community being "welcoming." I have met several of the MSC folks at shopper conferences and they look like a very professional outfit.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I did one and had a great experience! I felt slightly intimidated & nervous right at first, but the church I visited was thrilled to see a new face so the parishioners made it easy smiling smiley

My advice would be to look over the report form beforehand of course, but there’s nothing to stress about while on site. I focused on the experience itself, and writing the report later on came naturally.
I have really wanted to do one of these, but the only one available is 50 miles away and the service starts at 815 am. Admittedly, I am not a morning person. One of these days I'm going to go for it. I'd be all over it if it was closer. At one point they had a 1015 am service, but not now. Maybe I should contact the scheduler to see if the later service would be okay.

Just out shopping around...
By "weird," I meant how do you stop someone on the street or go into a business and ask about their neighborhood church? I get they want to know the perception of the church within the community, but if you say, e.g., "Do you know where such-and-such a church is," and they only tell you how to get there, is that a good-enough response? Or do you follow it up with "Do you know anything about them?" I'd love to do one of these and hope that eventually they run out of shoppers who meet my demographic!

I have not done one of these. I signed up because it intrigued me, but the locations were out of my area and I didn't want to make the drive.

Your approach to the question sounds like it would work, though.
I tried to do a few but I am not in a demographic they are looking for.
Yes, just follow up by asking if they know anything about the church. The people I asked had never heard if mine so there was no follow up for me.
As a church musician, I am intrigued.
Also a church musician....and all of these shops are when I'm working. :-(

Ha! What kind of church music do you do?
I have applied over and over and never been in their "demographic".
I did one of these, and I really liked the MSC. For that requirement, I went into a local gas station after the service. When I went in to pay for my gas, I asked the cashier who rang me up if she had ever heard of the church. We had a short and completely natural conversation about it. She said she had not heard of it. I apologized, and said that I guess she is not a "church" person. I said that I am looking for a new church, and I just wanted to know what she thought about it. She said that she is actually a "church" person, and she was looking for a new church as well. She said she was a new employee, and not familiar with that area.
Several in my area, waiting to see they add a bonus, its appears no one is taking them, but no bonus either.

A Dad shopping the Ark-LA-Tex and beyond.
are these shops through one specific company? I know there's a company that does churches specifically, but they don't have shops in my area. Was curious if there was other companies that offer church shops.
@rwimberly - I’ve only known this MSC to offer church shops. That’s their speciality.
Me, too. I am the wrong demographic.
