Anything worse than this bookstore shop?

There are tons of shops that do not pay well.. However, we are in pure capitalist system and as long as folks will do them for pennies, the MSC's will keep the payments low.
Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
This is why when a new shop comes along you only take ONE. This way if it is a "10-foot-pole" visit you only get stuck doing 1. And this one is a "10-foot-pole" visit. There are many other awful ones, too. This same MSC does Gas Stations. In 10 of 12 months it is a straight MS visit. But 2 of the months it is an Audit. Pays the same and takes FOREVER to do. Wouldn't wish my worst enemy to do this

Maybe this shop is meant for book lovers. The privilege of finding out what is new, goofy, serious, different, crappy, worthy, etc. is something that book lovers will do for free. They will happily fund their own coffee and snacks, if they want that. For book lovers, the little $5 is just a little discount for purchases and observations that they would make anyway. But book lovers deserve so much more. How about an all-expenses paid, globetrotting extravaganza into the international world of books? I would love that. Can I bring a friend?

I just wait for the "Make an Offer" icon to pop up and then put in a number that's acceptable to me. Sometimes they accept, sometimes they decline. It's nothing personal, just business.

Yes, it is one of those shops not worth doing. But there are certainly many others that are even more worse.
It is all perspective. If you do not love to be in bookstores and do not use them regularly, you will hate this type of shop. It will never be more than a discussion of a fee. But there is so much mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee. If you have the love of the books, and the willingness to spend time with them, this shop is an extension of your actual life ... I still want the worldwide book/historical document/ancient expressions/runes/cave paintings trip...

Um, no. I love to hang out in our local bookstore when I have the time. No way would I change the experience to a shop for a $5 discount. Unless the report consists of a single question, "Was the store open?", it would in no way be worth it.@Shop-et-al wrote:

I just toggled Hydra 777 so their posts are hidden. I can not decipher any of their posts. Makes you wonder what their shop reports look like. Another reason I don’t want to be an editor!
I am intrigued that so many folks take these shops at low fee payment points (even including the reimbursement). I make reasonable offers on these shops, but I surmised I always lose to a lower bid.
People, like me, who love bookshops would hate to mystery shop one. Why fret about for $5.00 when one can browse books or read?
I’ve done this shop twice. Both times, I threw out a crazy high offer, which was accepted.
I've done them a few times too. Both times they disappeared off the board at a low fee and reappeared as a HOT shop, since I am sure the person who took it for 5 dollars discovered it was more trouble than it was worth, and cancelled out. I'm a book lover, and will do this shop when it is bonused at least $12 to $20 -- which is often enough, for me. The last time I did one, the out of stock book ended up being in stock...oops!

I've seen this shop and laughed at it.
With that said... the grammar of the above is atrocious. If that is any indication of what the shop report would look like, you'd be lucky to get the $5. I'm not perfect, I make grammar and spelling mistakes, but there is truly no excuse for the above text.

This discussion reminds me of something I read recently. We cannot interpret or predict anyone else's perceptions or experiences because we are not them. Here, we cannot command or define anyone else's shopping choices and the outcomes of those.

.2 worth...Shop et-al, you do know (said in jest) anyone can enter a book store and browse, do it all the time, so, why take a job and do a report, which in itself deserves a fee. We have a Barnes and Noble and i enjoy it but lately I go to the library and take a book or two out....reading is good for the soul, working deserves a decent fee.

Funny, I just did my first of these shops yesterday because it was bonused and next to another shop. I enjoyed it so much I immediately went back to the job board and made an offer to do another one a bit further away. To be clear you can return your purchase (and there's no requirement that you wait an hour or a day as many other return shops have). Very easy report. The $5 is for the coffee shop. They sell slices of Cheesecake Factory products for $4.75 for those who are always asking about whether that eatery is shopped.

I hate coffee lol. I hate the smell of it and everything about it. This shop is just about the worst of the worst in my book . I can't imagine why anyone would ever take it, but I'm sure they'd say the same of me and some of what I take.

I am trying to determine if there are specific food or drink purchase requirements for this shop. I am OK with purchasing and possibly returning something from the bookstore but I am currently losing weight quite nicely and wish to be picky about what I consume. Since the only benefit for me is getting a cup of coffee since I have business inspections next door to the location, I am trying to determine if it actually is a benefit. Can anyone tell me food/beverage specific purchase requirement?
The shop has too many requirements for you to give even a passing thought to doing it for a cup of coffee. I had no idea the MSC had sunk so low. The one time I've done the shop, it included a $12 fee with the reimbursement. For me that was fine since I could spend hours there anyway and it was four minutes from home.

I used to do a great bookshop store for $10 and $5 reimbursement for the coffee and danish. I LOVED that shop! I like walking in the bookstores, going down the aisles and sitting in the coffee shop enjoying my cappuccino and pastry! They no longer have that assignment.... as the store sadly closed. 
Yes, I really like bookstores, too, but no need to add work to the experience if its a lot of work for no pay. I believe I may have done the same one you did, back several years ago.

If this is the same chain I am thinking of, I did a number of shops in their cafe too....it was one of my all-time bookstore chains.
Silver certified (since 2009) and willing to do shops all around the greater Chicago, NW Indiana, and Southern Wisconsin areas (including airports!.
