Scores from Mystery Shopping Companies

This post will be in two parts:
First, I really like to get a score from MSCs, along with feedback. There are a few companies who I have shopped for and I spend weeks wondering "how I did...." or "I hope I got all the necessary details," etc. I really, really like the scores and feedback!

Second, and this may be rather petulant or even infantile of me, but my whole day is literally ruined when I get a score of 7. I think about it a lot, wonder how it could be so....

About half of the time when the low score happens, I have to admit, with the feedback, I realize that I did indeed do something wrong. Other times, though, it seems as if an editor is being vindictive, having a bad day themselves, or trying to break your record of excellent scores...

Anyway.. Got a 7 sad smiley Deserved a 7, probably sad smiley
1. Had to be contacted for clarification sad smiley
2. Didn't get a name, even though I explained why I didn't get the name sad smiley
3. Didn't follow one part of a scenario. I explained this, too. It felt as if the scenario was playing out all wrong.

ANOTHER THOUGHT....! (this is going to be a long post....because that brings me to another topicsmiling smiley

Scenarios! Sometimes, it feels all wrong. It feels too "canned." It feels like someone sees right through you....etc.

An example that I can think of right off the bat is a big box store where you have to carry a large item around and wait to be offered a cart. Who does that consistently in real life? I think it's a dead give away that you are a shopper. Although when I have done those shops, I've followed directions perfectly, and the "example" from above is not the one I'm referring to in paragraph two above.

Okay...I know I rambled. I just hate, hate, hate getting low scores, whether it's my fault or not.

I too have experienced a lowered score but I can honestly say it was my doing. If the editor has to contact you then expect a lower score. Take it as a learning experience. Small things like names, timing, wrong scenario are areas that are critical to the client. I've been shopping 4+ years and still can make that small mistake. If I take an identical shop later on, I make a note to myself to remember what I forgot earlier. Editors aren't out to get you, they need to make sure the requirements for the client are implemented and included in the reports.

I've done the shop where you carry around a large article and try to get assistance from the associates. I usually pick up an oversized pillow, maybe throw in large package of paper towels and then find the unsuspecting associate. As I'm juggling my purse and all the items, I'll try to reach for something on the shelf. Of course, as you may know, it's not easy but you can be sure the associate will immediately offer to retrieve a carriage for me.

As for implementing the required scenario, practice a little at home before you go to the location. Then you won't sound 'canned' when you express it to the associate. Remember when we used to practice doing interviews so we did fall apart during the actual interview? Think of questions you might be asked and practice the answers. I hope this helps and I wish you 10's forever!
Thanks for the advice smiling smiley I will have to reach for something next time I have my hands full. Perfect way to execute that one....

I do find it hard to pretend with many of the shops. I tend to go for shops where the scenario is similar to my real life.

I know it was my fault. I just hate when it happens. I have high expectations of myself... winking smiley
Over time scores even out. Many companies might display your average of the last ten shops, but they really look at your average over all your shops. As long as you were paid and are still able to sign up for shops, don’t fret the score.
There are a few companies that won’t allow you to self-assign if your average is too low. A few others that email shops to high average shoppers before posting. But really, it doesn’t have that much impact.
Take the feedback when it’s given and do your best to apply it.
It’s actually ridiculous how many people skip getting a cart, then wind up needing one. They might not think they’ll get anything big enough or they don’t realize how big an item is in the box.
