$260 Shop Fee for Credit Card Application ?

Today I applied for my first shop with ATH Power. It happens to involve applying for a credit card at a local bank. The $260 shop fee caught my eye and I didn't hesitate to apply. If I do get accepted, I'm wondering if the shop will be marked as invalid in the case that I don't qualify for the credit card. I'm guessing that the shop guidelines will address this possibility. Is this such a difficult shop that the MSC has had to raise the fee so much? Any insight on this type of shop is greatly appreciated.

Just to be clear, you are applying for the cc at the bank and not at a retail location? I am just asking because in my area they only have shops for applying in store. That's cool if they have shops where you can apply at a bank. Have you checked your credit score to ensure yours is high enough to get approved? Good luck!

Wow. The only ones I’ve seen that high around here require you to speak Mandarin.

Just double checked and indeed it's at the bank. Yeah, I'm pretty confident my current credit score will suffice for a cc approval. Although, it would worry me if the guidelines don't specify that my cc application must be approved in order to be paid the shop fee and then I end up not being paid, in the event that my cc application gets denied.

I have done this job. Your credit score will take a hit so be cognizant of that. I have only seen this high of a payment for Mandarin or Spanish speaking clients. You do not have to be approved for the credit card to get paid from my experience or understanding of the job. Email the scheduler if you are concerned. They are responsive. Good luck!

Is this the one where you need to be between 18-20 years old?
Otherwise, unless you have some sort of special qualification, the fee seems high.

I got $1000 to open a Mastercard a couple of years ago, but not through Ath. I belong to a special group. I must be the only one in the database. smiling smiley

Is this the one where you have to be accepted by four companies and even if one does not for any reason, you don't get the high pay?

that's another MSC, and not the MSC whose requirements may include Spanish/Mandarin fluency in Mandarin/Spanish.

The one I looked at from Informa says if your not accepted for credit, you do NOT get paid.....I had to pass.

Just completed this shop today. The credit card application process took about half an hour. The shop report took me another half an hour to complete. $260 for an hour of work is awesome! smiling smiley

Very nice, congrats! I did a $200 cc application shop for them about a year and a half ago. I re-read the guidelines because normally the higher pay cc shops are for either fluent Spanish/Mandarin speakers or age range 18-20, but this was just a regular normal shop with a higher than normal pay. I grabbed it so fast and had no issues with the shop or the report.

I have done one of these for ath in the past or a very similar shop for a similar fee. Not a hard shop and it wasn’t conditional on being approved. It worked well for me at the time because I wanted a card. The credit card I received had a long 0% APR that happened to work very well as well.

While I would do it again, I think it’s important to note that a lot of credit cards have cash offers when you sign up and make your first purchases. Especially if you have good credit, these offers come up often and can pay as well as a shop without the work.

Congrats on finishing the job! Fellow Ath Power Shopper! I am new to Ath Power as well. I just did one in March with requirement of speaking Mandarin or Spanish.for $260. Look for an invite from Ellen to sign up with Bills.com. Keep us posted if you get paid in June!!

If you follow the Doctor of Credit or Frequent Miler blogs - you will see that most credit card applications are worth anywhere from $450 - $900 of value - either in cash or travel rewards. New bank accounts vary from $100 - $500, typically - I use those as a guideline before pulling the trigger on any new credit applications, considering also any hits to my credit or Chex score....and no shopping or reports required. I am only a mid level hitter in that space, I do well at it, but the heavy hitters make big $
