Bookkeeping: How do you record Jack in the Box or other flat rate shops?

Curious, how do you record fee and expenses when recording a flat rate shops such as Jack in the Box and others when a purchase is required? The invoices do not break these down and I wonder if this is an expense plus whatever is left over as the fee? Or is it the fee plus un-reimbursed expense? Thanks for all your replies!

Fee minus “shop” expenses = taxable income.

Note that I put emphasis on “shop.”

Very infrequently shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado these days.
I count the total fee as gross income and the meal as an expense against income. For me, that's easier at the end of the year for taxes than trying to break down each individual flat-fee job, deduct the expense, and just count the net income. It all works out the same, but for me it's easier to use an overall fees-in, expense-out bookkeeping method.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.

Thank you. That makes the most sense too.
May I assume that you are a registered business? I was told that you could can not claim any expenses unless you are actually a business, licensed with the state in which you shop. Have I been misinformed?

Yes, you've been misinformed.
