Bedbugs

I spotted a discussion in my email going on here about bedbugs.I haven't seen the post, however bedbugs & carpetmites have been a fact of life since textiles have been used indoors. If you notice them, its already an infestation. As gross as it sounds thier eggs are in/or on 95% of all textile things. They only hatch under perfect conditions. They thrive moisture & eat dust.If they are noticed in a hotel shop,a furnature shop or even a retail store shop, make note of it in your report.IT"S A DIRECT REFLECTION on the cleaning staff. They are simply removed with a vaccuum cleaner!

While it is correct that it is a housekeeping issue, it also is an issue with proper chemical pest control. Just as lice can be picked out of hair and their eggs picked off of hair follicles with due diligence and eliminate the problem, that would require excellent vision and checking each hair follicle. Bedbugs can be searched for in the seams of clothing and mattresses and through carpet, but chemical control in both cases makes a whole lot more sense. Both bedbugs and lice had been virtually eliminated in the developed world prior to the ban on DDT. Travelers to areas where both still exist have reintroduced the pests worldwide. And luckily only a small fraction of the eggs hatch because they do lay prolifically and with a fairly short reproductive cycle.

And yes, Arch, this was a comment on a recent discussion here.
I wouldn't say it's as simple as cleaning staff at all. There truly is an infestation, although I don't think the origin has been discovered.

As I posted in the original discussion, (found here: [www.mysteryshopforum.com] ), I got them from a piece of furniture purchased at a very high-end department store. And unfortunately, I can vouch from personal experience, that they are NOT easily removed with a vacuum!
Clearly it is time to do thorough pat downs of all prospective hotel/motel patrons before placing them in rooms. See www.tsa.com for suggestions. smiling smiley
