Poor writing samples in the comments.

I realize that I will be lambasted for this, but I am only stating a fact. I have complained about the low fees paid to mystery shoppers by most of the MSCs that I have followed. I have complained that it is unfortunate that so many people do not value themselves more because they accept the low fees. I am not a grammar cop, but many of the messages that I read on this site appear to have been written by children or by adults who have never learned to write well. It is not simply a matter of grammatical errors. I can understand why those people would not value themselves, but why would companies accept their reports? That is a rhetorical question. Maybe they don't bother writing well just when posting here.

I make mistakes all of the time. Even though I proofread everything I post, I still miss dumb mistakes. But, my posts do not appear to have been written by a child...at least I don't think that they do. smiling smiley

OP you definitely don't write like a child. Most children are not condescending.

I hear you, James, and totally agree.

I do NOT correct the posters here -- but sometimes I'm just so darned tempted, LOL!

I know people with PhDs who cannot write a sentence that makes sense.

One is a school principal.

And, of course, samples of poorly written material abound in guidelines and questionnaires, too!

But seriously.

Ha!

I just finished reading some threads that inspired me to write this. I would like to have used three of them in particular to illustrate my comment. I am not expecting anything to come from this.

Thanks. I would like to think that some people agree with me.

How I post on a mystery shopping forum has nothing to do with how I complete my assignments.

The forum is suppose to be informative and supportive. I have made a post on here in haste and had people correct my grammar. Those actions of some shoppers can cause people who make simple mistakes to not want to submit a post. Personally, I think it is the editors jobs to correct shoppers. There are a lot of different kinds of shops that include using apps with hardly any narratives. There are plenty of jobs for everyone. I think it is rude to make a post like this because it serves no purpose except possibly to boost your own ego while insulting someone else.

If someone is struggling with assignments and happens to write their post poorly, discussing their writing skills can be helpful. Otherwise this a friendly forum where people come to get some advice, commiserate or just socialize. Equating our banter with the way we write reports is not fact, it is an assumption.

Some of the posts complaining about others are suffering from "eye trouble."

Perhaps you should write to Jacob (owner of forum) and see if he could make you ":Warden of words", or
perhaps the owners of the MSC's should be fussier about hiring those without a Masters in English, and
pay for that degree in high fee's. We all do our best, some better than others, however, judging a after hours
forum where shoppers give a service free, seems a bit diva. I'm sure our writing improves with every dollar. Read the thread about what shoppers did before MSing, you'll be surprised at the bright, interesting profession's many have had.

I only forum-post on the phone because you can't be logged in on different devices at the same time so rather than logging in and out everywhere I just stay logged in on the phone whose keyboard is horrendous for typing. I make so many mistakes and backspace a lot but don't always catch all the errors. Shop reports that require comments are done on the computer where typing is so much easier, print is larger and spell check works. So much easier to read, find mistakes and correct.
When texting I use "damn autocorrect" so often, it autofills. I don't have any problem staying logged in on all my devices because of using Chrome on all of them and choosing the option to stay logged on.

In other words you were just being insulting?

Ages ago I had been called out for making a few spelling errors, yes, it was embarrassing and made one feel stupid. I was glad to see the forum evolved, but here we go again, and what came out of this was a huge embarrassment for the poster, hoping we learned to stop correcting and fighting with others. Moderators seem not to care, but posters do, so, shouldn't majority rule. I see the latest OP has not returned.

I actually unlike friends on social media who think being the grammar/spelling police is their job. I am a computer guy, shoot, I barely passed English in HS. I tell people I took English as a second language, and I don't have a first. smiling smiley

I try so HARD to not correct people's grammar!

I was at a friend's house, and drank a glass of water. She said, "Wow, you drink a lot of water." I replied: "I've drunk 3 glasses of water this year, all at your house!" She said "Drunk? Are you drunk? Your English sucks. You've DRANK 3 glasses of water this year."

For Heaven's sake, if you're gonna correct my English, please be stinkin' RIGHT.
My daughter has a double Masters, and one is in English Literature, yet she has never (NEVER) corrected me, however if she did, I would listen to her. Everyone should work on themselves and become a better person instead of trying to get a cheap thrill pointing out another's error.

You aren't much of a grammar cop yourself. Lots of run on sentences. Kindly; do you write reports like this?

Difference is I don't claim or have I ever corrected a mispelled word, I get 8/10 on all my reports. have maintained great relations with my MSC's, so no (of course) I write quickly while eating and watching T.V.... called mult-tasking, but realize this is not an industry where you need a college degree, so much for that.
We don't have to be perfect, it's called MS'ing, but thanks for asking.
p.s. I get plenty of work, and some jobs pay well, the forum is free....just sayin'

Life is all about context! The way I dress to go to work is different than the way I dress to go to the beach. The way I write a report is different than the prose I choose when kicking back with friends and colleagues on this forum.
