Thankful for my upcoming trip to Vegas and all the jobs pouring in...yahoo!! Since I celebrate Channakah, not Xmas, this trip comes for 4 of the seven nights of Channakah. I am an equal opportunity shopper. Spelling is correct (trust me), Americans spell this without the C and one N, that is not correct.

Hmm, I have never seen the word spelled your way Irene. My spelling is either a Hanukah or Chanukah...definitely not with an a instead of the u. I looked it up just now on many sites and there is no agreement with how to spell the word but says there are at least 26 different spellings. Yours does not seem to be listed in any of the top 10. Where did you get your spelling from? In NY where i am from it was always the spelling I used above. I am interested to learn this and will run it by my scholarly brother...a scholar of languages!

@sandyf...coming from an Orthodox family, being raised in the strictest way, I remember Channakah cards and the spelling being this way. I know there are many ways to spell it, I also know CH and not H is proper. This is the way we all spelled it, but Americans (as I said) just use H and leave off the C, we used to laugh about how little they know. Question becomes with so many ways, what is right, to me, my way is correct...can't say anymore, no one will change. We can discuss this personally after you reach your brother, and I am interested in his view.

edited to add...just did a google search on the spelling and (OMG)......Hannukah is their spelling

You probably spell with an orthodox accent. I spell with a New York accent..or should I say New Yawk.

Chanukah is how my daughter spells it and she is a master speaking French, taken Latin and reads piano music.
I think she may be right, if there is a right.
